WonderGround Gallery

The temporary location for WonderGround Gallery was the former ESPN Zone store, but this shop, too, is now closed. This building was also once home to the Soul of Jazz exhibit.

A sign on one of the front doors directed us back to WonderGround Gallery’s original location next to Jazz Kitchen.

From the outside, the WonderGround Gallery looks exactly as we remember it here in its original space.

When we first walked by, WonderGround Gallery was closed but fortunately, it later opened. Let’s have a peek inside.

WonderGround Gallery sells merchandise, paintings, and prints from Disney artists like Joey Chou.

The store’s design utilizes white walls and display shelves, allowing the colorful, artistic designs to pop.

Joey Chou artwork is featured on some of the signage and wall decals.

Disney Home Store

The Disney Home store is right around the corner. It also looks the same as it did before the closure.

It has hardwood flooring and homey merchandise displays that resemble cabinets and bookshelves.

This is where guests can find kitchenware, mugs and bottles, welcome mats, and more Disney-themed wares for their homes.

In fact, there’s an entire wall dedicated to Disney mugs and bottles.

Subtle Mickey Mouse motifs are featured throughout the store, including this wood-paneled mouse head with “home” in the center on the wall behind the cash register.

Downtown Disney District

The Downtown Disney District at Disneyland Resort is currently undergoing a transformation that includes several new shops and restaurants on their way. The new spaces set to be constructed are inspired by the mid-century space age look which was incredibly popular in California during the 1950s and 60s. A new Downtown Disney District logo was seemingly revealed when the above concept art was released.

So far we’ve heard about plenty of new outlets, such as the award-winning Din Tai Fung, which serves Chinese food including bao buns, wontons, and more. Other outlets on the way include the beloved Porto’s Bakery and a new permanent home for Earl of Sandwich. Currently, a temporary Earl of Sandwich Tavern sits in the former home of La Brea Bakery, which will be the site of Porto’s in the near future.

This pressed penny machine, which now features two new designs, can be found outside of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa at the bus stop.

Disney100 Mary Poppins Pressed Penny

The “Mary Poppins” Disney100 pressed penny features a silhouette of Mary taking flight. Unlike the “Alice in Wonderland” pressed penny, this design has a vertical orientation.

Concept art from the “postponed” ‘Mary Poppins’ indoor teacup attraction that was announced in 2019 at D23 Expo was recently discovered. The attraction was set to be added to the United Kingdom Pavilion at EPCOT.

Disney100 Alice in Wonderland Pressed Penny

The “Alice in Wonderland” design features both Alice and White Rabbit.

All pressed pennies across Walt Disney World Resort cost $1 each. Collectible Disney100 medallions are also available on Walt Disney World property. Be sure to check out our full list of Disney100 medallions (including locations).

Now that the World’s Most Magical Celebration, the 50th anniversary celebration at Walt Disney World, is in the past, Disney100 Anniversary Celebration pressed pennies have popped up around the resort, replacing the 50th anniversary designs.

From Iron Man to Disney Princesses and even characters from ‘Ice Age,’ there are several Disney100 pressed penny designs around Walt Disney World Resort in celebration of 100 years of the Walt Disney Company. A deep purple leather covers the satchel, decked out in whimsical references to fan-favorite Disney attractions. The Haunted Mansion, Space Mountain, and the Jungle Cruise are just a few of the many featured attractions.

The bag’s interior lining features a bold teal shade with a purple leather Dooney & Bourke tag and white stitching.

The satchel is complete with a deep purple leather tag that reads “Design by Joey Chou for Disney.” Silver accents are consistent throughout these items, from the zipper track to the Dooney & Bourke tag on the front of each item.

The design also covers the bottom portion of the bag while the front pattern differs from the other items in this collection, featuring a scene depicting the exteriors of several Disney Parks attractions, including Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and “it’s a small world” alongside characters like Mickey Mouse and Orange Bird.

Much like the satchel, this tote bag features a purple leather tag that reads “Design by Joey Chou for Disney.”

Joey Chou Collection Wristlet Wallet – $188

Wallet Dimensions:

• Wrist Strap Length: 7″

Again we see the same design, packed with references and set on deep purple leather also covering the wallet.

A pop of teal can be found inside the wallet.

The following description of artist Joey Chou’s background is available on the shopDisney website: “Joey Chou was born in Taiwan and grew up in Southern California. After graduating from Art Center College of Design with an illustration degree, he has been working as a Visual Development artist in feature and TV animation for the past ten years. He has also worked on a number of children’s book illustrations as well as some large-scale installations. His graphic style is influenced by many great illustrators of the 1960s.”

The Disney100 Look

Today, Donald, Goofy, and Pluto were spotted sporting their all-new Disney100 costumes at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort. Donald is sporting a deep purple coat with white cuffs over a white button-down. The look is complete with silver accents and a black bow tie. Donald’s signature hat is wrapped in a deep lavender ribbon.

Goofy’s look features a significantly greater amount of silver than Donald’s. He is sporting silver shoes, a silver coat, and silver hat with a deep purple ribbon accent. Under Goofy’s coat rests a white vest with silver buttons. His pants are the same shade of purple as the accent on his hat, and a black bow tie completes his celebratory Disney100 look.

Pluto’s new outfit is the most subtle of the group. He sports a silver collar and collar tag with his name and “100” on it.

The Character Caravan Returns

Thanks to Twitter user @DisneyWorldJp, we also got a closer look at the Character Caravan, which is now covered in a celebratory Disney100 wrap. You may recall the 50th anniversary-themed wrap on the caravan that transported characters to resorts during “The World’s Most Magical Celebration.”

Just last month, Disney laid out monthly themes including special offerings that will be available for the 100th anniversary celebration at Walt Disney World Resort. The appearance of the Character Caravan was included in that announcement.

Back in January, a covered entryway was installed at the exterior portion of the attraction’s entrance, presumably to protect guests from falling debris.

Neither the scrim nor the construction walls affect the path that guests must take in order to enter the attraction. The newly installed scrim is presumably in place to cover repair work on the exterior of the attraction, likely including the replacement of the portion of brick that had already fallen.

Some decorative elements are still visible just beyond the construction walls. It is unclear at this time exactly how long construction is expected to be underway.

The concern of falling debris outside the Despicable Me Minion Mayhem entrance arose after a noticeable missing brick was spotted just above this Universal Studios Florida attraction’s entryway in late January. At that time, a large covered purple entryway was installed, seemingly out of an abundance of caution. That covered entryway remains in place, with scrim now resting atop the structure.

Despicable Me Minion Mayhem is a simulator ride that transforms guests into Minions, taking them along on Gru’s latest scheme. The attraction opened in 2012, taking over the areas where Jimmy Neutron’s Nicktoon Blast and The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera once stood. In addition to Universal Studios Florida, this attraction can be found at Universal Studios Hollywood, Universal Studios Japan, Universal Studios Singapore, and Universal Studios Beijing.

The area where Despicable Me Minion Mayhem and Super Silly Stuff can be found, known as Production Central, is currently undergoing an extensive transformation as portions of the area are reworked into Illumination Avenue. The newly transformed area of Universal Studios Florida will also include Minion Cafe and the new Villain Con Minion Blast attraction. Both are expected to open later this year. Production Central is also currently home to Transformers: The Ride 3D and Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit. At this time, the exact layout of Illumination Avenue is unclear in terms of dividing the area up as the Minions attractions currently sit between Transformers: The Ride 3D and Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit.

Just a few days ago, we noticed that an all new welcome sign had been added to the side of Soundstage V, the soon-to-be home of Villain-Con Minion Blast. The welcome sign sits just above the also newly installed Vicious 6 billboard.

For those of you who are fans of ‘Despicable Me’ and, of course, the Minions, a Minion Bubble Wand was spotted in late March at Super Silly Stuff in Universal Studios Florida.

A “The Infinity Saga” badge adorns the bottom-right portion of this bag’s front.

Much like the “Iron Man” backpack, this bag is made mostly of a metallic canvas material, but this one features a bold royal blue shade.

The white star from Captain America’s Vibranium shield is at the center-top.

Red and silver accents are scattered throughout the bag’s design.

On the back is a glossy blue plastic with his shield design printed. The straps are blue.

Iron Man Handbag – $79

This Iron Man handbag makes a nice complement to the mini backpack. It is also covered in a red metallic material with gold accents. The Arc Reactor again sits at the center.

The back of the bag also features a ‘The Infinity Saga’ badge.

Captain America Wallet – $55

The blue glossy material returns, complete with the white star at the center.

Below the Infinity Saga badge on the back, you can spot Cap’s shield. A fun touch to this wallet.

There is a button-snap enclosure, along with several slots for credit cards and a driver’s license window. Shields and Avengers logos are patterned in the lining.

Iron Man Wallet – $55

If you want to complete the Iron Man set, you can snag this wallet! The Arc Reactor again sits front and center.

The wallet’s design is tied together with a ‘The Infinity Saga’ badge on the back of it.

The Latest as Construction Continues at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

This construction is just one example of the several changes that Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort has seen recently. The remodeled Kona Cafe opened just a few months ago and other areas of the resort saw refurbishments including the Lava Pool, Monorail station, and the lobby of the Great Ceremonial House where seating was revamped with new and improved upholstery.

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is one of our favorite Walt Disney World Resort hotels for several reasons, especially all of the great dining options! ‘Ohana is one of our favorites (even when they run out of the signature bread or remove the famous noodles). When Carousel of Progress broke down, guests found themselves stuck between two scenes, offering an exceptionally unique experience. Thomas Humphreys was present for the rare occurrence and documented the experience on Twitter, sharing that the attraction “broke mid-rotation”, allowing guests to watch not only one but two scenes of generational progress. Time travel sure is confusing.

Humphreys added that guests who were in the theater during this malfunction were eventually evacuated.

On a normal day of operation for this classic attraction, which is located in Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom, guests follow a family on their journey through multiple eras of progress. Let’s not forget the already unique component of this Walt Disney-original concept: a rotating theater!

The attraction, which debuted at the 1964 New York World’s Fair, features the catchy, classic track “There’s a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow” and has been entertaining guests at Walt Disney World Resort since its move from Disneyland in 1975.

In keeping with its theme of progress, the show has evolved from time to time. Just last summer, this attraction’s finale scene was updated, bringing new outfits to the Carousel of Progress family and adding references to EPCOT, ‘Food Rocks,’ and more. This past fall, we even saw updates to the attraction’s holiday decor.

In addition to this revitalization and holiday theming, we have even seen new merchandise released recently, such as this plush of Rover!

Mickey and Friends Tee – $36.99

The classic Mickey & Friends lineup of Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald, Pluto, Chip, and Dale has expanded to include Donald Duck’s nephews, Huey, Dewey, and Louie; Clarabelle; Horace Horsecollar; Pete; and even Mickey Mouse’s twin nephews Morty and Ferdie Fieldmouse. All but Pete look happy to be gathered together on the front of this new t-shirt.

There is no text or imagery on the back of the shirt.

Operating hours for Disney’s Hollywood Studios have been extended for April, so guests will have plenty of extra time to shop for items like this one! Fans of “A Goofy Movie” may want to use the extra time to visit the Creations shop, where themed Power Limes taffy is now available. If shopping isn’t your thing, stop by and see Max dressed as Powerline during meet and greets at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
