Our onsite reporter caught footage of the dragon, still burning, as the show came to a premature end for safety. The fire fell from the dragon’s mouth onto Tom Sawyer Island below. The cause seems to reportedly be a leak of flammable fluid, seen dripping down from the mouth moments before the fireball effect went off.

Guests in the western end of the park were rapidly evacuated, and all offerings west of the Jungle Cruise were quickly shut down.

Sources have told WDWNT that the Maleficent dragon collapsed as crews raced to extinguish the fire. Unconfirmed reports have claimed that the entire stage area for the nighttime spectacular has also collapsed. Future performances of “Fantasmic!” have been removed from the Disneyland schedule, with performances not scheduled until May 26 at the earliest. The Anaheim Fire Department has confirmed that no injuries have been reported as a result of the incident.

Less than an hour after the evacuation began, Adventureland reopened to guests, while Frontierland, New Orleans Square, and Critter Country remain closed off as of the writing of this article.

“Fantasmic!”

“Fantasmic!,” is a nighttime spectacular which first debuted in Disneyland on May 13, 1992. The show stars Mickey Mouse as he explores the possibilities of his imagination, but the Disney Villains team up in an attempt to create an unstoppable nightmare for him. Featuring characters and music from Disney films including “Fantasia,” “The Jungle Book,” and “Pirates of the Caribbean,” the show incorporates projections on screens of water, pyrotechnics, and both the Sailing Ship Columbia and Mark Twain Riverboat as they sail past guests on the Rivers of America.

“Fantasmic!” went into an extended hiatus as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, and finally resumed performances in late May of 2022. Since then, the nighttime spectacular has performed with minimal incident in Disneyland, though it was unexpectedly shut down for just over two weeks this past January. MagicBand+ interacts with “Fantasmic!,” as the center puck changes colors and flashes in sync with the show.

Over at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World, the show, which premiered at the park in 1998, underwent a longer break, returning last November with new scenes inspired by “Mulan,” “Frozen II,” and “Moana”. This past March, a TikTok user captured video of an incident where a performer portraying Aladdin missed the ledge they were supposed to swing onto and crashed into the mountainside portion of the set. Guests attending the performance noted that the performer reappeared later in the show, appearing to be unharmed. This week, the Florida production will operate once a day on a reduced schedule ahead of a brief closure for refurbishment currently set for May 1 and 2.

Disney100 Cinderella’s Coach Premium Popcorn Bucket – $30

Unfortunately, it was raining during our visit so we couldn’t get pretty pictures of the bucket on Main Street, U.S.A., but it’s still a beautiful bucket.

The pumpkin-shaped coach is platinum and sits on royal purple wheels — the colors of the 100 Years of Wonder Celebration. A “C” emblem is on the side doors and Cinderella, in her wedding dress, looks out the windows. It’s the same design as the 70th anniversary Cinderella bucket, just in new colors.

The bucket has a flip lid on the top (perfect for protecting your popcorn from the rain).

The strap is a light lilac color with “Disney100” and “100 Years of Wonder” repeated in darker purple with stars.

You can find this bucket (no glass slipper required) at the Fantasyland Theater, as well as the popcorn carts near Sleeping Beauty Castle, “it’s a small world,” and Town Square on Main Street, U.S.A.

Of course, this is just one of several premium items available for the celebration. For something more sinister, check out the Poison Apple Mug, or just make a wish on the Star Glow Cube! There are also standard popcorn buckets for the celebration and a Magic Key holder exclusive.

Waving your MagicBand+ in front of this Disney100 medallion will cause Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather to cast a spell of purple lights around the edge of this special 100 Years of Wonder display. The three good fairies from “Sleeping Beauty” can be found dancing around this anniversary installation right behind the Storytellers statue at Disney California Adventure.

At the Disney100 Mickey statue in Downtown Disney, waving your MagicBand+ will get Mickey to talk! When we stopped by, Mickey marveled at the crowds saying, “Wow, look at all the people here today!”

Earlier this year, it was revealed that MagicBand+ would trigger special effects on the platinum decorations. In that announcement, we learned that the interactions weren’t likely to debut with the start of the Disney 100 Years of Wonder celebration, but they’re ready now.

In addition to the Disney100 décor, the bands also interact with statues seen around the resort, similar to how they did at Walt Disney World during “The World’s Most Magical Celebration.” MagicBand+ also interacts with select attractions and nighttime spectaculars at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure.

The Disney 100 Years of Wonder celebration began on January 27, 2023, with the debut of “Wondrous Journeys” at Disneyland and “World of Color – ONE” at Disney California Adventure. Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway also opened on January 27.

The move, announced back in December, ends arguably the biggest change at the restaurant brought on due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since its reopening in July 2020, meals had been served family style at the table.

As it has since the reopening, Chef Mickey’s continues to use the Mobile Dine Check-In process through the My Disney Experience app. Once you get a text that your table is ready, you go to the Host/Hostess stand and wait for someone to take you to your table.

Interior

Guests at Chef Mickey’s are back at the buffet lines, and they get a great view of a passing monorail every few minutes!

While the buffet is back in action, some stations are still decorated with merchandise, as they were during family-style dining.

Chef Mickey’s was busy, but not jam-packed.

Characters

Chef Mickey is stationed at the front of the restaurant, but guests don’t have their meet-and-greet with him until after they finish eating and paying. But if you’re antsy to see the mouse in all his splendor, fear not, as he does come out and dance with the other characters periodically during the meal.

Upon being seated, we were presented with an autograph card.

The card depicts Mickey, Minnie, Donald Duck, Goofy, and Pluto as they ride in the front of a monorail passing through the resort.

Minnie Mouse and Goofy, clad in their chef’s outfits, stopped by our table to pose for pictures.

For those wanting a photo op with the star of the show, Chef Mickey, you can do so after your meal is over and you have paid.

After paying, the waiter will stamp your receipt, and you take that with you to meet Mickey as you exit. You must have a stamped receipt to do the meet-and-greet.

We’d say the Chef Mickey meet and greet is worth the wait!

Once you’ve gone through the meet and greet, a Cast Member marks your receipt so you can’t get back in line again.

Cocktail Menu

For those looking to enjoy an alcoholic beverage with their meal, there are a variety of cocktails available. Guests are given a cocktail menu along with their autograph card when seated.

Buffet — $51 per Adult, $33 per Child

After nearly three years, it’s time to hit the buffet.

Charcuterie

First up is a section of cold offerings, where guests can pick up a colorful plate to start their journey. There’s also a cute display of breads, including one shaped like Mickey’s head.

For charcuterie, a variety of cheeses, meats, and smoked salmon are complemented by crackers and bagel chips.

We weren’t impressed with the charcuterie; it’s “just” charcuterie. This may be a lighter way to start the meal, but it is something you can skip if you aren’t into deli meats and cheese.

Hard-Boiled Eggs, Quinoa, and Toppings

There are also capers, diced red onion, hard-boiled eggs, tomatoes, quinoa, and more.

The quinoa was very good. It had fresh fruit and onion in it. It’s a nice take on quinoa. It’s very soft in texture, with the crunch coming from the onion.

Fruit and Yogurt

For dairy lovers, there’s no shortage of yogurt and fruit.

Cups for the yogurt can be found to the right, just before the kids’ station.

Kids’ Station

The station offers potato barrels, scrambled eggs, and chicken sausage. (Don’t worry, adults can help themselves too!)

The scrambled eggs are basically batch eggs. There’s nothing fundamentally wrong with them, as they’re your typical Disney eggs. The potato barrels are nice and salty, with a little crunch. The chicken sausage from the kids’ station is really chewy and nicely spiced.

Bacon, Sausage, and Beef Hash

The next station is for meat lovers, with bacon, pork sausage, and corned beef hash.

The pork sausage cuts like butter using a knife. Otherwise, it’s your typical pork sausage. The bacon is crispy.

The standout on this plate was the corned beef hash. There’s a lot of salt from the diced corned beef.

Frittata & Tofu Scramble

Next up is a frittata, as well as a tofu scramble.

The plant-based eggs of the tofu scramble are inoffensive, but it’s enhanced by Impossible sausage, spinach, and fresh peppers. It’s a great plant-based offering and one of the best things about the buffet. It certainly beat the frittata, which wasn’t good at all. It tastes like a slightly melted block of cheese. The goat cheese is very sharp, bitter, and way too overpowering. You can skip this.

Pancakes, French Toast Sticks, & Mickey Waffles

There’s plenty of Celebration Pancakes on the griddle. (We don’t think we can eat that many.)

There are baskets of French toast sticks and Mickey waffles.

The pancake is perfectly fluffy, thanks to it being freshly made on the hot griddle. There’s a little sweetness to them. The French toast sticks are a little tough, but good enough to have. They’re thoroughly covered in sugar. The Mickey waffle is made well. The crispy exterior is complemented by a soft inside. They’re very enjoyable.

Carved Ham and Beef Brisket

For more meat, check out the carved pit ham and beef brisket.

There’s an au jus to accompany the meats.

The brisket is vile. It’s absolutely terrible. The inside is brittle, and the texture is scaly. Definitely pass on this. On the other hand, the ham is tender and juicy. The au jus is on the sweet side and a great accompaniment to the ham.

Fruit Compote Toppings

Next are a couple of fruit compotes and bacon, likely intended for the pancakes, waffles, and French toast. But there’s no judgment if you, say, want to top your ham with them.

Oatmeal & Cheesy Grits

There’s also a station that’s home to oatmeal and cheesy grits.

Hash Browns, Biscuits, & Country Gravy

Don’t forget those side dishes! There are hash browns, biscuits, and country gravy.

Butter, Marmalade, and Jellies

When we see butter, orange marmalade, and grape and strawberry jelly, we know we’re entered… The Pastry Zone.

Banana Bread Pudding

For a sweet finale to the meal, check out the warm banana bread pudding.

Danishes, Croissants, Cinnamon Rolls, Turnovers, and Muffins

Of course, there are also Danishes, mini croissants, cinnamon buns, turnovers, and Minnie Muffins, decorated with red, yellow, black, and white sprinkles.

Moving to pastries, the Minnie Muffin is a cranberry chocolate chip muffin. It’s soft and easy to eat. Our turnover was guava flavored. It’s soft, flaky, and very refreshing. We were impressed with the bread pudding. The caramel sauce is fantastic, but don’t overdo it. It’s salty-sweet. It’s a very well-made banana bread pudding. There are fresh chunks of banana throughout, which we enjoyed.

The croissant is good enough, but nothing special. It’s buttery and flaky, as was the apple Danish. The pastry is perfect, but the apple filling tasted artificial. The cinnamon roll is better than the ones at Gaston’s Tavern in the Magic Kingdom, but it was still the stalest of the pastries available. Skip this.

Be sure to keep an eye out for special touches on the buffet line, like this display of bread, complete with a floral piece featuring Chef Mickey’s loco.

Overall

All in all, it’s good to see Chef Mickey’s fully bounce back from the impact of COVID-19. As with all buffet meals at Walt Disney World, there are some hits and some misses. We think this one has enough hits to earn a return visit.

Walt Disney Imagineering shared images of the figures and installation, which took place earlier today, on their Instagram account. The figures show Mickey hoisting up Minnie, in her blue dress and red hat, who holds a watering can.

When Mickey’s Toontown reopens on March 19, every corner of the land will have a fresh, new look. CenTOONial Park features two water tables and a Dreaming Tree that young ones can use for play. Donald’s Boat and Goofy’s house have been refurbished, with the latter now also holding Goofy’s How-to-Play Yard, which offers a sound garden and elevated clubhouse. Meanwhile, Gadget’s Go Coaster has become Chip ‘n’ Dale’s Gadget Coaster, though it will still be centered around Gadget Hackwrench. Two new restaurants will open, Café Daisy and Good Boy! Grocers. Food and pricing for the eateries were revealed earlier this week. The centerpiece of the new land, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, opened in late January.

French Onion Dip Pizza – $8.99 for a Slice, $43.99 for a Whole Pie

Mozzarella, Gruyère, Caramelized Onion, and sliced Roast Beef served with a side of Beef Au Jus

Given the combination of flavors, we weren’t sure about this, it could have gone either way. Luckily, it was fantastic and we were pleasantly surprised. This is a great pizza slice!

The caramelized onions break down almost into a sauce that’s sweet and gooey, with just enough roasted savory qualities to work as a pizza topping. The beef was a little too salty, as was the au jus. Individually, they aren’t too bad, but when combining a bite of beef dipped in the au jus, it can be just a tad overwhelming.

Despite the saltiness, all of the flavors worked well together and made this pizza a surprising hit.

Also joining the menu at Boardwalk Pizza & Pasta is the Lemon Chiffon Pie, which we reviewed when it premiered at Hungry Bear Restaurant in Disneyland earlier this month.

Platinum Trifle – $8.49

Layers of Chocolate Cookie Crumbles, Cheesecake, Cherry Compote, Chocolate Cookie Mousse, and Crème Fraîche Chantilly with Crunch Pearls and a Chocolate Piece

The trifle is also available at Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe, as well as Fiddler, Fifer & Practical Cafe, and Pacific Wharf Café in Disney California Adventure.

There are a lot of flavors going on in this. All of them work well together, both individually and in pairs, combining into an overall very interesting and satisfying treat. It’s decadent and rich, with the cream cheese being the main through-line offset by the bright pop of fruit from the cherry compote. The chocolate and cherries work well together, the cherries and cheesecake work well together, and the chocolate and cheesecake work well together.

Altogether, this is fantastic. Because of how rich this is, this small trifle can be enough for two or even three people. Not only does it look great for Instagram, but it’s also delicious to boot. This is one of the better treats of the celebration.

Old-Fashioned Cream Soda – $7.49

Sprite, Cherry, and Blue Cotton Candy Gourmet Syrup, served frozen and topped with Whipped Cream and Purple Pixie Dust

The soda can also be found at Hollywood Lounge and Studio Catering Co. in Disney California Adventure. This one split our party. Some of us enjoyed it; others downright hated it. Sprite with cotton candy syrup is not an old-fashioned cream soda. It’s not even a cream soda at all!

The whipped cream doesn’t really mix in very well and just clumps at the top. The stringent bite of syrup at the back of the throat belies the artificial flavors, and the overly sweet Sprite makes this drink wholly unpleasant.

But for those who enjoyed the drink, it’s sweet and fruity, with enough creaminess to satisfy the title of cream soda. But even those who enjoyed it felt it to be uneven, giving a mouthful of syrup followed by a mouthful of Sprite followed by a mouth full of cream. Its consistency is lacking, and overall, it’s not even close to being one of the best drinks we’ve had.

The show, which takes place primarily at Sleeping Beauty Castle and Main Street, U.S.A. features nods to every Walt Disney Animation Studios feature film to date, from “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” to “Strange World.” Additional projections can be seen on the façade of “it’s a small world” in Fantasyland.

Aurora is shown during the “Once Upon a Dream” number from “Sleeping Beauty.”

During the “Encanto” segment, the castle transforms into the Madrigals’ casita.

The “toy ships” segment shows different vehicles and large creatures from Disney’s animated canon represented as playthings. Films referenced in this segment include “Lilo & Stitch” and “Treasure Planet.”

Next, the castle is painted with the “Colors of the Wind” during the “Pocahontas” segment.

We’re off to Neverland as Peter Pan, Wendy, Michael, and John fly over the rooftops of London.

We then head to San Fransokyo and the world of “Big Hero 6.” As “Immortals” plays, Baymax takes to the skies and flies overhead.

The show features an original song, “It’s Wondrous.”

We also caught a view of the show from “it’s a small world”

Testing for the show has been ongoing in the last week. We managed to catch a glimpse at a test run including fireworks last week.

The show features moments from across Disney’s varied franchises. It tells new story of how a single action, like a drop of water, creates a ripple that can grow into a wave of change.

Pocahontas shows her adventurous side in one moment.

Mirabel and the Casita are featured in the “Encanto” segment.

Linguini and Remy from “Ratatouille” get a brief nod.

Joe Gardner leads a spirited music lesson in the segment themed to “Soul.” This was previewed in a recent video on Instagram.

“Coco” also gets to seize its moment.

We also head to a galaxy far, far away in the “Star Wars” segment, which shows clips from the films as well as the Disney+ series “The Mandalorian.”

We see Moana and her relationship with the ocean during the show, including an encounter with Te Ka.

The Avengers assemble in a scene which features the portals that reunite the superhero team in “Avengers: Endgame.” This marks the first time Disney animation, “Star Wars,” and Marvel Studios have been featured together in the same Disneyland Resort nighttime spectacular.

Finally, all of these stories come together in the show’s grand finale.

The musical score is comprised of 18 different compositions, including the new and original song “Start a Wave,” written by GRAMMY-nominated artist Cody Fry and featuring lead vocals by Loren Allred. The show utilizes virtual queuing, though it isn’t required to see the show

Over at the Disneyland Resort, Disney animation is celebrated in “Wondrous Journeys,” which features projection mapping and fireworks.

Disney100 Cocktail – $18.00

Empress Gin, Pea Flower, Honey, Lavender, and Lemon Juice garnished with an Edible Flower

This is one of the better cocktails in an already stellar lineup of libations here at Lamplight Lounge. It’s very lavender and honey forward, with a subtle undertone of the gin.

The herbaceous nature of the gin serves to bring out that character in the lavender and provide a nice compliment. The lemon cuts through the sweetness, though it is still a sweeter cocktail than we expected thanks to the hefty dose of honey.

This is an absolutely fantastic purple-colored cocktail that is properly themed for the celebration without being overly saccharine or grape-flavored, which we were appreciative of. Overall, this is one of our favorite cocktails we’ve ever had here at Lamplight Lounge and we hope it remains on the menu long after the celebration ends.

Disney100 Celebration Cake – $12.00

Pecan Brownie, Chocolate Truffle Mousse, Red Berries, and Milk Chocolate Mousse glazed with Chocolate Ganache and topped with a Star

This cake is incredible! The combination of flavors, textures, and even chocolate intensities is perfect. The rich, dark chocolatey flavors are offset by the bright pop of berries in the middle, cutting through some of the sweetness and bringing variety to the “chocolate on chocolate” cake.

The gooey ganache wraps over the light, creamy chocolate mousse and is held together at the bottom by a thick, almost chewy pecan brownie.

The variation in chocolate flavor and differences in texture keep everything interesting, and then the berries cut through all of that to prevent the sweetness from taking over completely is just what this needed. It’s an elevated version of the classic chocolate cake, and we couldn’t be happier.

Hands down, this is the best dessert on the menu here. Get this!

This is just a cookies and cream milkshake. It wouldn’t be a celebration without a specialty shake from Schmoozies! that uses Oreos for Mickey ears, and this drink continues that proud tradition.

It’s just a basic shake, though dressed up in its Mickey best. We can’t be upset about it, but neither is it special or impressive in any way.

For the money, you can probably find something more unique elsewhere.

Platinum Blue – $16.00

Rum, Blue Curaçao, DOLE Pineapple and Sour Mix

This just tasted like blue pineapple juice. There was maybe a hint of rum, but for the most part, it just tasted like Dole pineapple juice. That can be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on your preferences. We wish we could taste more of the rum to make it more complex than just a cup of juice.

That being said, it has no bite and is very easy to drink if you want a cocktail on a warm day. Overall, it’s not the best rum cocktail available at the park right now and not the best cocktail overall by a long shot. We would probably skip this one in the future.

Old-Fashioned Cream Soda – $6.49

Sprite, Cherry and Blue Cotton Candy Gourmet Syrup, served frozen and topped with Whipped Cream and Purple Pixie Dust

This one split our party. Some of us enjoyed it, others downright hated it. Sprite with cotton candy syrup is not an old-fashioned cream soda. It’s not even a cream soda at all!

The whipped cream doesn’t really mix in very well and just kind of clumps at the top. The stringent bite of syrup at the back of the throat belies the artificial flavors, and the overly saccharine Sprite makes this drink wholly unpleasant.

But for those of us who enjoyed the drink, it’s sweet and fruity, with enough creaminess to satisfy the title of cream soda. Yet even those who enjoyed it felt it to be uneven, giving a mouthful of syrup followed by a mouthful of Sprite followed by a mouth full of cream. Its consistency is lacking, and overall, it’s not even close to being one of the best drinks we’ve had.

The soda is also available at Studio Catering Co. in Disney California Adventure, as well as Galactic Grill in Disneyland.

Snickers Sundae – $9.99

Butter-Pecan Ice Cream topped with Chocolate Shell, Caramel Sauce, Whipped Cream, Chopped Peanuts and SNICKERS Bar Pieces, served in a Waffle Cup

This is a nice, straightforward sundae. The butter pecan is its base and the main flavor note, with the occasional accents of peanut, caramel, and chocolate.

Whereas a Snickers candy bar is predominantly chocolate, this one is predominantly creamy butter pecan ice cream and while it has the same confluence of flavors, they’re presented in different ratios, with different flavors being more forward than we expected.

It’s a solid sundae that isn’t trying to be something flashy or ridiculous. We thoroughly enjoyed this! Anytime that butter pecan is the star of the show, we’re happy campers.
