Indiana Jones Adventure Bridge Effect Restored After Several Years

The collapsing bridge effect has returned to Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Forbidden Eye at Disneyland Park. The effect has been broken or inactive for several years.

Indiana Jones Adventure Bridge Effect

When Indiana Jones Adventure is working properly, ride vehicles pause in the center of the rope bridge, in front of Mara’s head, and guests feel like the bridge is starting to collapse under them before the vehicle takes off again.

The bridge itself doesn’t actually move. The effect is accomplished thanks to the vehicle’s hydraulics and the ropes on the sides of the bridge dropping. For a while, there was no dropping effect.

Now, the ropes once again move as the vehicle bounces, enhancing the feeling that the bridge might give way.

We confirmed the effect was working on Monday, January 26. Watch our video of the operating effect below.

Indiana Jones Adventure frequently closes for refurbishment, sometimes for just a few days and sometimes for months. Its full of complex effects that must be repeatedly fixed and maintained, although some effects have been fully abandoned and replaced by projections.

A 2023 refurbishment restored several effects and introduced a new scene. Watch our POV video from 2023 below.

Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Forbidden Eye opened at Disneyland Park in 1995. A second version, subtitled Temple of the Crystal Skull, opened with Tokyo DisneySea in 2001. It’s a nearly identical attraction but with a slightly different story set in Mexico instead of India.

New Indiana Jones Ride Coming to Disney World

A person with a torch approaches an ancient, glowing artifact inside a cave. Nearby, people in a vehicle point flashlights towards the artifact. The scene is filled with mystery and ancient symbols, reminiscent of an Indiana Jones adventure through the hidden wonders of the animal kingdom.

DINOSAUR at Disney’s Animal Kingdom will close permanently next month to be transformed into a third Indiana Jones ride. DINOSAUR, which opened with the park in 1998 as Countdown to Extinction, uses the same ride system and an almost identical track as Indiana Jones Adventure.

A group of people observe and take photos of a vibrant red and yellow structure in a lush, jungle-like setting with surrounding greenery and ancient ruins.

Though expected to be a similar experience to the existing Indy rides, the Disney’s Animal Kingdom version will have a new storyline. It will be set in a Mayan temple to fit with the Tropical Americas land replacing DinoLand U.S.A. Indiana Jones heads inside the temple after hearing stories of a mythical creature. Construction walls in DinoLand are decorated with bat-like creatures that appear to be Camazotz, spirits from Maya mythology.
