Despite being faced against another Disney produced film, Ella McCay, Zootopia 2 has hopped back into the number one spot in North American box offices.

Zootopia 2 in the Box Office

Zootopia 2 recently passed $1 billion at the global box office, making it the second Hollywood movie to reach $1 billion this year. The first was Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch, which grossed $1.03 billion.

This comes after two weekends of record numbers world-wide. Once its opening weekend numbers were tallied, Zootopia 2 was found to have had the biggest global opening for an animated film ever and was also the sixth-highest-grossing movie of the year worldwide.  It also became the first Hollywood movie to ever pass the $100 million mark in a single day in China.

In its second weekend, the popular sequel reached $915.8 Million worldwide, including $695.3 million in the international box office.

Now in its third weekend, the film has returned to number one, surpassing another Disney film,Ella McCay. The film was written and directed by The Simpsons co-creator and As Good As It Gets filmmaker James L. Brooks, who is also working on the second Simpsons movie. It follows “a young politician who unexpectedly becomes her state’s governor.”

Zootopia 2 also surpassed the Universal and Blumhouse horror sequel Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 in its third weekend. The former beat out the Disney sequel in its second weekend.

The Disney Parks have a load of offerings available for the new movie, like a limited-time macaron, a limited-time sipper, a ride overlay, and a new puppet show at Shanghai Disneyland, limited-time meet and greets, and last but not least, the new show at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Zootopia: Better Zoogether.
