McKenna Grace and Mason Thames are rumored to play Rapunzel and Flynn Ryder in the upcoming Live-Action Tangled remake, which starts filming in June 2026.

According to The Disinsider, McKenna Grace is the favorite amongst insiders to play Rapunzel for the upcoming movie. Freya Skye, from Zombies 4 is also being considered for the role, however, Grace is the current frontrunner.
Grace is known for playing Phoebe Spengler from Ghostbusters and Carol Danvers in Captain Marvel.
Alongside Grace as Rapunzel, rumored to play Flynn Ryder is actor Mason Thames, from Black Phone and How to Train Your Dragon. The Disinsider says, although a shortlist for Flynn has not yet been put together, Disney has their eyes on Thames for the role.
We first reported on the development of a live-action Tangled remake in 2020, ten years after the original film’s release. After five years, live-action Tangled was put on hold following a poor response to Disney’s live-action Snow White remake.

The original animated Tangled made $600 million worldwide. It featured the voices of Mandy Moore as Rapunzel, Zachary Levi as Flynn Rider, and Donna Murphy as Mother Gothel.
It spawned a short film sequel, Tangled Ever After, and a TV series, Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure. Disney Cruise Line adapted the original film into a stage musical. The first Tangled-inspired ride, Rapunzel’s Lantern Festival, debuted at Tokyo DisneySea in 2024. Another ride, Raiponce Tangled Spin, is under construction at Disneyland Paris.

As we previously reported, JoJo Siwa auditioned for the live-action role of Rapunzel but no casting decisions had been made.
