Universal’s Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 earned $63 million in the U.S. this past weekend, making it the biggest opening ever for the weekend after Thanksgiving.
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 Opens to $63 Million Opening Weekend
Internationally, the sequel earned $46.1 million from 76 markets for a total of $109 million. Its production budget was approximately $36 million before marketing (via The Hollywood Reporter).
The box office is defying the film’s low critics scores. It currently has a 15% Tomatometer from critic reviews compared to an 87% Popcornmeter from audiences. The first film also wasn’t loved by critics, hitting a 33% Tomatometer, but got an 86% Popcornmeter. Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 got a B CinemaScore.
Five Nights at Freddy’s had an $80 million opening weekend and earned $297.1 million total.
The sequel had the second-best horror opening of the year so far behind The Conjuring Last Rites, the highest PG-13 horror opening ahead of Predator: Badlands, and the highest December horror opening ever ahead of Scream 2.
The success of the Five Nights at Freddy’s games and film led to a haunted house at Halloween Horror Nights 2025 at both Universal Studios Florida and Universal Studios Hollywood. It was also featured in 2024 at the Dead Coconut Club Featuring Blumhouse and in 2023 at Blumhouse: Behind the Screams and the Blumhouse Photo Experience.
