Daisy Ridley Applauds Fans For Supporting “The Hunt for Ben Solo”

Back in October, Adam Driver dropped the news that Disney had killed off the Ben Solo spin-off movie he had been developing with Steven Soderbergh. Now his Star Wars co-star, Daisy Ridley, is speaking out in support of fans who want the project to go forward.

Ridley Applauds Supportive Fans

In a recent interview with IGN, Ridley broke her silence around the project’s cancellation, expressing her gratitude for the support of fans. “I do love when there is a collective of positivity,” she told the outlet. “The way the internet seems to have rallied to try and get it to happen. I think one, it’s fantastic for us all.”

She went on to explain the popularity of Solo’s character and how good it was to see people from all over the world unite in this one cause—to bring his story back. “I just love that the Star Wars fandom is such a huge and gorgeous array of different points of view and different people, and the fact that everyone is really behind this thing, I think, is just sort of lovely…” she told IGN. “…I think it’s wonderful. So I was surprised, and honestly, I felt joyful about how it went down.”

Following Adam Driver’s reveal of his cancelled Ben Solo movie, Star Wars fans flew a “Save #TheHuntForBenSolo” banner over Disney Studios in Burbank to express their anger. Then, a Star Wars-inspired billboard took over Times Square with another message.

The sign resembled a galaxy with blue text, a look made iconic by the film franchise. It reads:

For Adam. No one’s ever really gone. Hope lives. Ben is alive! #THBS

According to Collider, the billboard was purchased by B.D. Neagle, who had this to say about the movement:

I’m just a fan who thought Ben’s story wasn’t finished. I wanted to do what I could to support the fandom and everyone attached to “The Hunt for Ben Solo.” The intent was to show Disney this is what fans actually want. ‘No one’s ever really gone’ I believe, says it all. If they could bring back Palpatine with one line, there are plenty of ways Ben could return that already fit into Star Wars lore.

The movement began once Driver called the film’s script “one of the coolest (expletive) scripts I had ever been a part of.” After getting Lucasfilm on board, they pitched the project to Disney — only to have it rejected by Bob Iger.

Some fans think that “Driver intentionally revealed the plans for The Hunt for Ben Solo to galvanize the passionate fan base, and to put pressure on Disney to move forward with the project.” Ryan Reynolds leaked test footage in a similar move to convince 20th Century Fox to move forward with Deadpool.
