Disney Begins to Pour Concrete for Monsters Inc Attraction & More Monstropolis Updates

More aerial photos from @bioreconstruct on X reveal construction progress on the new Monsters, Inc. land replacing Muppets Courtyard at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Most structures of the courtyard will be reused, but a brand new building is under construction to house the door roller coaster.

Though MuppetVision 3D signage was removed from the theater, the PizzeRizzo billboard and Gonzo’s Royal Flush sign are still standing. At the back of the courtyard, It’s A Wonderful Shop and Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano also still have some signs and decorations.

There is a ditch in front of Mama Melrose’s for some kind of foundational or underground work.

More ditches are between the MuppetVision 3D exit and Mama Melrose’s. A new show is expected to take over the theater while Mama Melrose’s will become Harryhausen’s, as seen in the first Monsters, Inc.

The new coaster is under construction where a section of cast parking used to be. Since bio’s last aerial view, concrete has been poured in one corner. There are more supports in the ground, easily visible on the side of the foundation closest to the park.

As bio describes, an auger is used to drill holes, which are then filled with concrete. Dirt is excavated and the top of the concrete piling is cut. Concrete is then poured into forms on top of the filings, creating a floor.

Look closely and you’ll see dozens of concrete spots in a grid across the ground.

The roller-coaster will be Disney’s first suspended coaster and their first vertical lift.
