Just days after new details emerged in a final report, the family of Kevin Rodriguez Zavala and Universal have reached an “amicable resolution.” Zavala was found unresponsive and later died after riding Stardust Racers in Epic Universe.
‘Amicable Resolution’ in Stardust Racers Death

As we previously reported, Kevin Rodriguez Zavala, 32, was unconscious after riding Stardust Racers at Epic Universe on September 17. He later passed away from “multiple blunt impact injuries,” said the medical examiner.
The family hired lawyer Ben Crump shortly after the incident. Crump, who is known for his involvement in civil rights and personal injury cases, is famous for representing the families of Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd. Crump also represented the family of 14-year-old Tyre Sampson, who passed away after riding an attraction at ICON Park in 2022.
The lawyer has been outspoken about the situation, and addressed the reopening of Stardust Racers less than a month after the incident with “reopening the ride before our experts can examine every component is unadulterated spoliation of evidence, a grave risk to public safety, and puts profit over people’s lives.”

Now, just days after the final report revealed details of Zavala’s death, Crump has issued a statement regarding a confidential resolution between Zavala’s family and Universal:
The family of Kevin Rodriguez Zavala and Universal have reached an amicable resolution in this matter. The terms are confidential. The family is grateful for the community’s support and asks for privacy at this time.
The final report stated that no criminal acts occurred in the death of 32-year-old Kevin Rodriguez Zavala after he was found unconscious on the roller coaster at Epic Universe earlier this year.
