Zootopia 2 has become the second biggest Thanksgiving opening ever. The film also smashed a record previously set by Avengers: Endgame.

According to Variety, Zootopia 2 earned $19.7 million on Thanksgiving Thursday alone. Per Deadline, the film also earned $38.5 million on Black Friday. The sequel has earned an “impressive $59.2 million domestically since opening on Tuesday night and is expected to collect $140 million to $156 million over the five-day holiday period,” based on numbers from both Variety and Deadline. Wicked: For Good grabs second place behind Zootopia 2‘s Thanksgiving numbers with $12.6 million.

Despite its opening numbers, Zootopia 2 falls short of the 2024 record setting Moana 2, which earned $139 million over the traditional weekend and $225 million over the five days. Previous films release on Thanksgiving with notable numbers includes Frozen II with $125 million over the five days and 2013’s Hunger Games: Catching Fire with $109 million over the five days (Variety).

The second “Zootopia” is dominating the international box office, earning $74 million to push its global total to a sizable $133.2 million. It is projected to pull in an additional $135 million to $145 million from foreign markets over its first five days of release. The film is doing particularly well in China, where Shanghai Disneyland recently debuted a Zootopia Land. It has grossed more than $54 million in its first two days in theaters, becoming one of the few Hollywood films to resonate at the Chinese box office since COVID — the country has instead turned to local-language productions as tensions with the U.S. have risen.
The first Zootopia opened in early March 2016 to $75 million across the U.S. and Canada, and finaled at $341.2 million in domestic numbers. with $1 billion worldwide.
