Construction has begun on a brand new roller coaster to replace Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit at Universal Orlando Resort. Universal still hasn’t announced exactly what the replacement ride will be.
Rip Ride Rockit Replacement
Photographer @bioreconstruct shared photos of the roller coaster footers on X. An aerial image shows concrete forms in various stages next to Hard Rock Cafe. At the left are footers partially buried in the ground with wood on top. The forms in the center are starting to be removed from cured concrete. On the right side of the image is sheet foundation in progress with rebar sticking up for future concrete forms.
A photo taken from the ground shows the circular footers up close. In the background are completed concrete footers, some with wooden boxes over the bolts on top. In the foreground are rebar frames awaiting concrete. The metal forms on the left are curing concrete.
When Universal Orlando Resort announced the closure of Rip Ride Rockit at Universal Studios Florida, they stated it would be replaced by a “new experience.” One permit referenced a new “attraction” and another called for a two-story building. Sources have indicated the attraction could be a new roller coaster by Intamin. Technically, these footers are the first confirmation that the new experience is a coaster.
The theme of the coaster is still unknown. Rip Ride Rockit utilized the former Ghostbusters firehouse facade that was once the entrance to the Ghostbusters Spooktacular show. Construction walls in that area first featured Ghostbusters signage, which many interpreted as a hint about the new ride. Universal later added Back to the Future and Fast & Furious references to the walls. Nothing has been confirmed.
