REVIEW: Is Disneyland Paris’ Revamped Sports Bar & Lounge a Win or A Fumble?

Sports Bar & Lounge at Disney Village in Disneyland Paris reopened on November 22 with a refreshed look and a new menu. Do the new drinks and dishes win with us?

Signature Drinks

Iron Mike Sour – 12,5€

Buffalo Trace Bourbon, Penja pepper flavoured cordial, egg white, mango-passion fruit concentrate, toasted marshmallow flavoured syrup, angostura aromatic bitters and Timut pepper

This drink sounds interesting but is actually very safe. It’s not strong enough in either direction, flavor- or alcohol-wise, to make much of an impression, although it is very easy to drink. The predominant flavor we got was marshmallow with a bit of the bourbon. We also joked that the toasted marshmallow garnish looks like an ear (if you get it, you get it).

Swiss Ace – 12,5€

Gordon’s London dry gin, fresh cucumber, fresh basil, lime flavour concentrate, kiwi preparation and matcha tea flavoured syrup

This drink is very middle-of-the-road for us. It’s very syrupy and just on the verge of being too sticky and sweet, but it is drinkable. It’s very cucumber forward to the point we could barely taste the gin, if at all. The earthiness of the matcha comes through a little on the back end.

Alley-Oop – 12,5€

Trois Rivières white rum, ginger drink, lime flavour concentrate, cherry preparation, Coca-Cola ZÉRO SUGAR Cherry and sweet popcorn

From the first sip, we immediately tasted cough syrup. The combination of cherry and ginger creates a medicinal flavor. The popcorn on top is the same sweet popcorn sold in the buckets in the Disneyland Paris parks and does not improve the drink at all when consumed together.

La Reine Des Agres (non-alcoholic) – 9,5€

Coca-Cola ORIGINAL, grapefruit preparation, ginger preparation, lime flavour concentrate and cotton candy

The drink arrived looking separated, and we immediately stirred in the cotton candy and let it dissolve before tasting. All together, it creates a sweet ginger-lime Coke that we enjoyed, although we might have liked it better if we hadn’t mixed in the cotton candy.

Cinnamon Roll Cold Brew (non-alcoholic) – 7,5€

Milk (or plant-based drink: coconut or soy), coffee flavoured cold brew concentrate, cinnamon roll flavoured syrup, whipped cream and ground cinnamon powder

Out of the several signature cold brews on on the new menu, we opted to try the cinnamon roll flavor. Unsurprisingly, it tastes like a milky coffee with cinnamon. It was too milky for us personally and felt a little heavy-handed on the cinnamon sugar.

Food

Garlic Bread with Parsley – 9,5€

This deceptively simply named starter has amazing presentation: it has a big American-style bread football on top, which is halved and spread with the same garlic-parsley butter on the surrounding slices. All the bread was soft and fresh. We wanted a little more garlic but otherwise enjoyed this, especially for the presentation.

Pretzel Balls – 7,5€

Served with creamy tomato and paprika sauce

Why do these pretzels have sesame seeds? We wanted salt — although that’s probably a cultural preference. That said, the pretzels are soft and warm, and the sauce is creamy with a nice hint of spice. It’s also a good price for a shareable starter.

Crunchy Veggies with Vegan Pickle and Herb Sauce (Vegan) – 7,5€

Gem lettuce, radish, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, carrots and cauliflower

These crudités comes with a nice assortment of fresh-cut veggies, but the star is the sauce. It’s tasty and tangy with lots of dill pickle flavor; it reminded us of a less sweet Big Mac secret sauce. We’d happily munch on these with a beer while watching a game.

Baby Back Ribs – 14€

Pork ribs with maple syrup and soy sauce

Fair warning to any Americans: don’t order these. Now that that disclaimer is out of the way, the pork is tender and juicy, and we actually wanted more of the glaze. The light sweetness of the maple syrup and saltiness of the soy sauce are good. These are surprisingly solid, although it’s not a great value. The crispy side is just plain rice noodles.

Hot Pretzel Sandwich – 16€

Pulled BBQ chicken, caramelised onions, pickled red cabbage, black peppercorn sauce

The pretzel bun is designed like a soccer ball, but the toothpick has an American football — we’re confused, too. The pulled chicken tastes like the premade heat-and-eat variety we get at home in the States, and we wanted the bun to have a more pronounced pretzel flavor, but overall it’s a good sandwich and it has a great presentation.

Hot Vegan Sandwich – 15€

Hot dog roll, lettuce, Beyond® pea protein nuggets, pico de gallo and tartare sauce

None of these elements sound like they belong together — but somehow, this sandwich works really well. It tastes like a crispy chicken sandwich from McDonald’s, which isn’t surprising because the Beyond® pea protein nuggets are the same ones you’ll find at McDonald’s in France, but these nuggets have been battered and fried onsite. The tartar sauce is creamy and the pico de gallo adds some additional vegetal flavor. It’s really good vegan bar food.

Vegan Chili – 8,5€

Soy protein chili

This is the same vegan chili found at the buffets in Disneyland Paris, which our reporter already likes. It’s a little too tomato-forward and sweet for us, but that’s a personal preference. It’s a huge portion with lots of soy protein crumbles that could easily be a meal by itself. Overall, we were really impressed by the vegan options.

Fried Potato Wedges – 6,5€

With smoked flavoured cheddar sauce, bacon and fried onions +3,5€

We’re already fans of the potato wedges at Disneyland Paris, which remind us of good, thick-cut steak fries. And loaded up with cheese, bacon, and crispy onions, they instantly became a standout with the perfect balance of smoke and salt. Our European reporter also really enjoyed these and said they’d order them with ketchup and mayonnaise. Overall, Disneyland Paris did a great job with the bar food here.

Dessert

National Treat League – 11,5€

Milk chocolate and hazelnut entremet, crushed hazelnuts and crispy wafer

It’s a Kinder Bueno shaped like an American football, which means we loved this. The filling reminded us of a Ferrero Rocher with rich hazelnut flavor and a great texture contrast with the creamy mousse and hazelnut crunch. The milk chocolate shell is also great. This is a fantastic dessert.

Power Puck – 13,5€

Dark chocolate mousse entremet, brownie insert, caramel custard, shortbread hockey stick

The texture of the brownie seemed off; it tasted more like fudge than a baked good. This was definitely a downgrade after eating the fantastic hazelnut chocolate dessert.

Game, Set & Snack – 10,5€

Lemon mousse entremet, almond cake

Great presentation — that they went to the trouble to color and stripe the almond cake to resemble the clay of a court was really cute. The dessert itself is just lemon mousse with a lemon gel filling, so it’s very tart, and the cake itself was slightly dry.

Sweet Strike – 10,5€

Chocolate and raspberry mousse entremet, almond cake

The almond cake is back, only now colored green like a soccer/football field. It’s topped with another molded mousse with a fruity gel filling, this one chocolate with raspberry in the shape of a soccer ball/football. The flavor combination here is much better than with the lemon version.
