Mickey’s Christmas Carol Characters

During their meal, guests will meet Mickey Mouse, Scrooge McDuck, Minnie Mouse, Clarabelle Cow, and Goofy all in their costumes from the 1983 Mickey’s Christmas Carol. Mickey and Minnie play Bob and Emily Cratchit.
Clarabelle did not play a major role in the film, but appears in the emerald green she wears during Fezziwig’s party. Her costume features embroidery and details on her bell.
Scrooge is, of course, the main character of Mickey’s Christmas Carol, playing his namesake Ebenezer Scrooge. He’s dressed how he appears at the end of the film when he throws a jacket on over his bedclothes and slippers.
Goofy is the most impressive. He portrays Jacob Marley’s ghost, so is dressed all in ghostly green with a chain wrapped around him. Even his face is a ghostly green.
Buffet Review

The buffet offers a variety of cold and hot options, plus desserts. There are year-round items and seasonal selections just for the Christmas feast. Note that buffet selections are subject to change.
There are tons of options and we didn’t try quite everything but here are our reviews of everything seasonal and special.
Salads & Sides
There’s a kale and quinoa salad that includes turkey, currants, golden raisins, parmesan cheese, breadcrumbs, and champagne vinaigrette. It’s very California. It’s not too salty or too bitter. The vinaigrette adds a nice balance. It’s a little citrusy and the quinoa is very good. Rating out of 7: 5
There’s also a broccoli salad, which we loved. It’s fresh and delicious with cranberries, pickled onions, and a coleslaw-like dressing. Rating out of 7: 6
Pictured above is the German potato salad, roasted beet salad, and delicata squash salad.
The German potato salad is a little overloaded with cilantro but otherwise good. it’s not too creamy and has a light dressing. The potatoes are cooked well. It has the perfect amount of bacon. Rating out of 7: 5
Though not all options are listed on the Storytellers Cafe menu, the beet salad is described as having frisée, goat cheese, pea tendrils, oranges, and toasted almonds. It’s tangy, earthy, and citrusy. It’s a nice combination but some might not like it. Rating out of 7: 3
The delicata squash salad was soggy and had an interesting flavor with autumnal spices. It’s unique and not bad, but not our favorite. Rating out of 7: 4
The roasted veggies consist of Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, carrots, and onions. They’ve got a bit of pepper, olive oil, and salt. They taste healthy in a good way. They’re cooked well and make a nice side. Rating out of 7: 6
The garlic mashed potatoes are fluffy and creamy. The garlic is prevalent without being overpowering. Rating out of 7: 5
Cornbread muffins are available with honey butter on the side. The muffin is just fine but the honey butter is perfect and really elevates the bread. Rating out of 7: 6
Potato chips and tortilla chips were accompanied by a variety of dips: salsa molcajete, guacamole, onion dip, and ranch dressing.
Marinated mushrooms and marinated olives are available on the side.

Breadsticks and crostinis are alongside cheese and charcuterie selections. There’s a crudité of tomatoes, carrots, broccoli, celery, and asparagus.
There is also a standard Caesar salad and mixed green salad. Red wine vinaigrette and bleu cheese dressing are available.
Fresh fruit included pineapple, watermelon, cantaloupe, blueberries, strawberries, and blackberries.
Poached shrimp is accompanied by cocktail sauce.
The seasonal soup is tomato bisque. Oyster crackers are available on the side.
Meats
The teriyaki glazed chicken was our favorite item. It’s topped with the perfect amount of sesame seeds. It’s like a Japanese grilled skewer or yakitori. It has a great sweet and sour. It falls off the bone and has no smokiness.
Rating out of 7: 7
The all-spiced pork belly with rice pilaf is too fatty but otherwise very good. It melts in your mouth and tastes like Christmas ham. It’s topped with perfect pickled onion and a wonderful glaze.
Rating out of 7: 6
A braised short rib comes with creamy polenta and wild mushrooms. Though not advertised, there’s pomegranate on top which gives it a nice holiday flavor. The rib is great. It’s cooked well with a nice glaze but is a little salty. The mushrooms are fantastic and the polenta adds a nice earthiness.
Rating out of 7: 5
Baked salmon with lemon pistachio comes with mashed potatoes, chimichurri, and micro greens. The lemon flavor is present and the chimichurri is good. The pistachios add a nice crunch. Unfortunately the salmon is too fishy. Rating out of 7: 4
At the carving station, you’ll find herb roasted rib eye and turkey. On the sides are creamy horseradish and cranberry sauce.
The turkey is a little dry but not as dry as it could be. It’s flavorful. The cranberry sauce is good and enhances the turkey.
Rating out of 7: 4
The horseradish with the prime rib is fantastic. It’s a nice complement to the meat without being overpowering. The rib is tender with a good rub on top. It’s medium to rare and is not too fatty.
Rating out of 7: 5
The butternut squash ravioli with brown butter sauce, pumpkin seeds, and chives is amazing. The brown butter sauce really comes through and is phenomenal. The squash brings a bit of sweetness. The ravioli is perfectly cooked to al dente. The pumpkin seeds are nice and the chives add a freshness.
Rating out of 7: 6
The popcorn shrimp is served with an unlabeled sauce. It seems to be a mix of mustard, chipotle, and ranch. It worked really well with the shrimp.

Kid-Friendly Options

There are four pizza options: regular cheese, pepperoni, and then two chef’s specials, which were BBQ chicken and Margherita. The cheese and pepperoni were horrible. Their crusts tasted like bad pre-made crusts and were worse than frozen pizza. The cheese tasted sour.
Rating out of 7: 2
The chef’s specials were much better, even though they are theoretically the same crust. It worked better on these. They both had much better cheese.
Rating out of 7: 4 for the BBQ chicken and 5 for the Margherita.
Red chili oil, grated parmesan, Italian seasoning, and red chili flakes were available as toppings.
What might seem like standard mac and cheese was actually incredible. It’s cavatappi noodles with a yellow cheese sauce, parmesan, and parsley. You can taste the butter. It’s cheesy but not too cheesy. The noodles are al dente. It’s impressive.
Rating out of 7: 6
The chicken tenders are standard Disney chicken tenders. Rating out of 7: 4
The fries were beer-battered and actually the best fries we’ve ever had at Disneyland.
Rating out of 7: 5
In addition to cornbread, there is a variety of dinner rolls and French butter. The breads appeared to include pumpernickel and nine grain. The French butter was just a soft unsalted butter. The breads all tasted great with the honey butter from the cornbread.
Desserts

The gingersnap cookies are similar to the seasonal gingerbread cookies we gave a 7/7 at Harbour Galley. These are harder but have a better flavor. Still, they aren’t quite as good as the Harbour Galley cookies.
Rating out of 7: 5
The chocolate chip cookies are standard.

The seasonal bread pudding is cranberry orange with vanilla sauce on the side. It reminded us of the Orange-Cranberry Loaf from Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe, which we gave 7/7. Like the cookies, however, this isn’t quite as good. It has less orange and cranberry flavor. The vanilla sauce elevates it a bit.
Rating out of 7: 5
This hazelnut panna cotta is very soft. It has actual hazelnut pieces, chocolate mousse, a white chocolate medallion, and crispy chocolate Pop Rocks on top. It’s decent but not our favorite.
Rating out of 7: 5
This is labeled “chocolate molten cake” but it’s not molten at all. it’s very hard. The mousse has just a bit of chocolate and the cake is nothing special.
Rating out of 7: 4
These macarons weren’t labeled so we were surprised when we bit into them. The one with a gingerbread was sugar cookie-flavored and the red and white macaron was peppermint. They were both amazing. The texture was perfect.
Rating out of 7: 6
The apple crumble tart has a Mickey chocolate medallion and some kind of mousse on top. We were divided on this. It’s a really sour, tart apple with a flaky crust. There’s nothing artificial. The mousse is creamy but had no flavor.
Rating out of 7: 5
This pumpkin cranberry cheesecake was far too cheesy. It was like Cheez-Its. Beyond that there were just too many flavors and it was too sweet.
Rating out of 7: 3

There were too sorbet options, both really good. The mango passionfruit sorbet was refreshing with a strong flavor. The “berry” sorbet tasted like a mix of raspberry and strawberry. It was very different from the mango but also good. The texture was great — not too creamy.
Rating out of 7: 5

Various toppings are available for the desserts, including sprinkles, M&M’s, and gummy bears.
Overall
In general, this was a very good feast. The only really bad thing was the pizza. Our favorites were the teriyaki glazed chicken, mac and cheese, and roasted veggies. All the meats were good.
The desserts were just fine. The bread pudding and macarons were probably the best. But we prefer the Jolly Holiday options in Disneyland Park.
The character costumes are great. Ghost Goofy was particularly incredible.
We recommend the experience if you can get a reservation.
