The Disney Destiny is home to Cask & Cannon, the first Pirates of the Caribbean-inspired bar on a Disney cruise ship. It is the best bar on the high seas? We review the specialty cocktails!

Inspired by the classic Disney parks attraction Pirates of the Caribbean, this swashbuckling pub features plundered treasures, rum bottles, jail cell keys and more. The relaxed atmosphere invites you to catch up on the latest sports while unwinding over an extensive selection of spirits and brews—some served straight from the barrel in true pirate style.

Be sure to check out the full tour of the venue, which includes incredible details based on Pirates of the Caribbean attractions all over the world.

And now, let’s review the drinks!

Dead Man’s Chest – $25

Experience for 2. Zacapa 23 Solera Rum, Pineapple, Lime, Agave, Coconut Froth.

The Dead Man’s Chest consists of two cocktails and comes in a treasure chest. When opened, it has a smoky presentation which makes for a neat effect. There are also LED lights on the glasses so they light up different colors.

Overall, we really enjoyed this drink. It has a refreshing, crisp pineapple flavor, with a bit of a fizzy texture which wakes you up. The alcohol does not have a strong presence in this drink, which can make it dangerous if you aren’t careful!

Not only is the drink amazing, but the presentation makes it special in its own way. There are also gold-wrapped chocolate coins in the treasure chest as well.

Shiver Me Timbers – $20

Barrel Aged, Goslings Spirited Seas Ocean Aged Rum, Demerara, Orange Bitters

The Shiver Me Timbers cocktail is very citrus forward. Instead of a simple syrup, Disney uses Demarara, which is the source of the sugary sweet notes we tasted in this drink. This one is another “smack you in the face” kind of drink; it has a kick to it.

Guests who really like rum will love this drink. You may want to give this a stir to make sure everything is mixed together nicely.

Drink Up Me Hearties – $15

Bacoo 11 Year Tequila Cask Rum, Patron Reposado, Giffard Banane du Brésil, Cream

Bacoo 11 Year Tequila Cask Rum, Patron Reposado, Giffard Banane du Brésil, Cream

The Drink Up Me Hearties cocktail comes in a neat looking glass, with a Bacoo creature embossed on the front. It also comes with a map, which explains the myth behind the drink.

Bacoo is a mischievous spirit, and it’s been said daily ration of milk and bananas keeps the bacoo satisfied. This drink has a creamy banana texture and taste. It goes down creamy with just a hint of bitter.

The Kraken – $14

Kraken Black Spiced Rum, Cointreau, Lime, Orgeat, Ginger

Kraken Black Spiced Rum, Cointreau, Lime, Orgeat, Ginger

The Kracken tastes very similar to a ginger beer, in our opinion. Comparing it to a tropical-style mule would be accurate, so if you do not like ginger you will not like this cocktail. Again, the glass has cool details, this time with tentacles wrapped around.

Overall, it ranked really well among the cocktails offered at Cask & Cannon.

Loose Cannon – $40

Savor the rich, bold and spiced flavors of a unique trio selection of rums fit for a captain’s toast. Culverin 5 Year Blended Rum, Falconet 8 Year Dark Rum, Sovereign XO 22 Year Dark Rum

Savor the rich, bold and spiced flavors of a unique trio selection of rums fit for a captain’s toast. Culverin 5 Year Blended Rum, Falconet 8 Year Dark Rum, Sovereign XO 22 Year Dark Rum

The Loose Cannon comes in a trio of rum shots, including a five-year, eight-year, and 22-year. The Culverin rum had a nice, smooth burn. For a young rum, we were very impressed.

The Falconet rum, which had been aged eight years, had a sharper bite than the five-year. We also thought it was sweeter and strong. Lastly, the Sovereign rum was the strongest of the three shots, but it goes down really smooth after the initial burn.

The shots come served in a cannon bottle, so the presentation is themed really well to Pirates of the Caribbean. It is really expensive but worth the money for such a cool experience.

Special Barrel Aged Rum – $30

The last drink we tried was the Special Barrel Aged Rum. The bartenders light the inside of the barrel on fire and close the lid to keep the smoke trapped. When opened, smoke wafts out for a really cool effect.

The drink itself is very smoky due to the presentation. In addition, the smoke was more a gunpowder smoke vs a regular wood smoke. We left the lid closed for ten minutes, and that was too long and the smoke was very overpowering. We recommend opening it sooner if you prefer a less smoky experience.

The drink comes with a caramel-filled chocolate, which paired very nicely with the drink. It was very pleasant and helped knock down the intensity of the rum.

Final Thoughts

We think Cask & Cannon is the best sports bar of all three Wish-class ships in the Disney Cruise Line fleet. If you want to be immersed in Pirates of Caribbean theming, and not necessarily the movies, this is a great place to get that.

At the end of the day, Cask & Cannon is a sports bar, and we think it’s probably the best bar on the ship, both with the menu and theming. The drinks all have great presentations with the smoky effects and various glasses the drinks came in. We are big fans of rum, and all of these drinks really knocked it out of the park.
