Holiday Beef Pot Roast – $27

served in a puff pastry crust with mashed potatoes, beer-battered onion rings, and black garlic-truffle aïoli

Holiday entrée at Plaza Inn in Disneyland: Puff pastry, onion rings, green beans, mashed potatoes, and sauce on a blue plate.

The pot roast was very tender and reminiscent of the pot roast from Liberty Tree Tavern. It has a distinctive mushroom flavor from the gravy. It was a decently sized portion of beef in a flaky puff pastry crust, topped with three beer battered onion rings. The aioli is the perfect accompaniment for dipping the onion rings, though we don’t think it works too well with the beef. The mashed potatoes were the standard skin-on mashed, and the green beans were mediocre. Overall, a pretty good value for $27.

Holiday Turkey Meatloaf – $25

with mashed potatoes, green beans, cornbread crumbles, and cranberry barbecue sauce

The meatloaf was quite a disappointment. A turkey meatloaf is always going to have issues with moisture, as ground turkey typically dry. So, if you’re looking for a dried out hunk of meat, this is your dish. The cranberry bbq sauce was amazing and did its best to try and save the meatloaf, but it just wasn’t able to overcome the dryness. At $25, we would consider this a much worse value than the pot roast.

Pistachio and Cherry Cheesecake – $11

with morello cherry compote

The cheesecake flavor was amazing; however, we were not fans of the whole pistachios in the mix. It would have been better if they were ground up and added to the crust. The cheesecake itself was very soft and flavorful, and the cherry compote was good, as well. If the pistachios weren’t a factor, this could be a “7/7” contender.

Holiday Cosmopolitan – $17.50

Grainger’s Deluxe Organic Vanilla Vodka, Cointreau Liqueur, and cranberry and lime juices garnished with a sugar rim

A festive red cocktail in a coupe glass with a sugared rim, ideal for celebrating at Disneyland’s Plaza Inn near Sleeping Beauty Castle.

Although this was very tart from the lime juice, the vanilla vodka gave it a nice flavor. Overall, it is a solid offering that might improve as the season continues.
