Magic Kingdom Monorail Route Reversed As Of Today

UPDATE: Cast Members confirmed that the loop will test reversing loops in the afternoon to transport guests more quickly from Magic Kingdom to TTC.

Walt Disney World is testing a new route for the Magic Kingdom Express Monorail.

Beginning today, Disney has started testing a new route for the Express Monorail that typically takes guests directly from the Transportation and Ticket Center to the Magic Kingdom Station in a counter-clockwise direction.

Starting with testing today, the Express Monorail is traveling in a clockwise direction, just like the Resort Monorail Loop. This change is thought to provide a simpler and easier way to swap out trains when a breakdown occurs. This way, Cast Members can move the train off the loop and into the monorail barn quicker because it’s already going in the right direction to go through the switch track.

Walt Disney World Monorail

Earlier this year, trains of the Walt Disney World Monorail Transportation system received new glow-in-the-dark logos. This was one of the more recent updates to the Walt Disney World monorail system, following the addition of the lights underneath each train that illuminate the beam in a color matching each name. These lights were originally added in 2021 as part of the Walt Disney World 50th anniversary celebrations, though they have seen various updates and changes since then.

The Walt Disney World Monorail Transportation system, dubbed the “public transport of the future” is a fleet that has a total of twelve trains, which are all identified by different color schemes. The system opened with the resort in 1971. When EPCOT opened in 1982, it was expanded to visit the second park. It currently runs twelve Mark VI Monorails across three lines. It transports over 150,000 guests daily. The Mark VI Monorails have been in operation since 1989.
