Magic Kingdom Express Monorail Testing Reverse Direction in the Afternoons

The Magic Kingdom Monorail loop will continue to test reversing directions each afternoon.

Magic Kingdom Monorail Operational Changes

People strolling beneath a blue archway labeled "Magic Kingdom Monorail" are greeted by the magical sight of two monorails gliding gracefully above, reminiscent of a Disney Ornament in motion, capturing the enchantment that awaits just beyond the iconic Contemporary Resort.

On Sunday, we reported that the Express Monorail — which connects Magic Kingdom and the Transportation and Ticket Center — had reversed direction. It was running clockwise instead of its usual counter-clockwise. On Monday morning, it resumed counter-clockwise operations.

According to Cast Members, the Express Monorail will switch to a clockwise loop each afternoon between 12:30 and 4 p.m. depending on the day’s operations.

It will continue to run counter-clockwise in the morning, taking arriving guests from the Transportation and Ticket Center through Disney’s Contemporary Resort to Magic Kingdom. This is faster than the opposite direction passing through both the Polynesian Resort and Grand Floridian Resort.

In the afternoons and evenings, when more guests are leaving the park, the Express Monorail will switch to the clockwise loop, taking the faster route back to the TTC.

This also means the Express Monorail will be traveling in the same direction as the Resort Monorail. It will be easier to move the train off the track and into the barn quicker when operations end each evening or if there is a breakdown because it’s already going in the correct direction to go through the switch track.
