Ahead of the authorized strike by the Starbucks Workers United union starting November 13, the Downtown Disney location closed early. The Downtown Disney Starbucks location closed Saturday night after workers walked out. However, the store will reopen on Friday, November 14.

It is unclear whether the company and the union have reached an agreement. They began contract negotiations in February 2024.

Store Closed Signage

When guests visited the Downtown Disney location after the strike closure, neither sign indicated why the store was closed. Nor did they mention anything about the strike or potential reopening date.

General Starbucks Strike

92% of the unionized Starbucks baristas voted to begin an open-ended strike starting on November 13, according to Starbucks Workers United. This year, that date also coincides with Red Cup Day, a major sales day for the company. The baristas are striking for, among other things, better working hours, higher take-home pay, and the resolution of unfair labor practices, such as union busting.

Strikes are planned for Starbucks locations across 41 cities. These cities include Anaheim, California, so more stores besides the Downtown Disney location may be affected. As of now, both Disneyland Park and Disney’s California Adventure Park locations remain open.
