Docuseries to Shed Light on Lack of Flying Dragon Drones at Epic Universe

The upcoming “Epic Ride: The Story of Universal Theme Parks” will apparently shed light on the lack of flying dragons in How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk.

According to Attractions Magazine, the series will feature lots of footage of the dragon drone testing and “the moment Universal decided it wasn’t ready for the park.”

“Epic Ride: The Story of Universal Theme Parks” is executive-produced by John Marks and Jon Strong for Universal Television Alternative Studio. It was originally set to premiere in full on Thursday, July 24, but was postponed to November 17.

The docuseries “showcases the beloved parks’ storied history and legacy” and “gives an insider-y look” at Epic Universe, which opened on May 22. It will offer “unprecedented access, rare archival, and intimate interviews with directors, producers, executives, and A-list celebrities,” according to NBC.

Attractions Magazine was given a first look at the series, and state that the format of “Epic Ride” switches back and forth between two narratives with three hour-long episodes that track “the history of of Universal in chronological order while documenting the progress and preparation of Epic Universe on the ground inside the park during its final six months of construction.” Other things that will be shown in the show include the following:

  • A rehearsal for “Le Cirque Arcanus,” a new show inside Epic Universe’s “Harry Potter” area, go completely wrong.
  • Hear former Universal executives complain about former Disney CEO Michael Eisner.
  • Hiccup’s actor rehearsing out of costume for “The Untrainable Dragon”
  • Puppeteers learning how to operate the fantastic beasts of “Le Cirque Arcanus”
  • Two Stormfly dragon costumes backstage at once

“Epic Ride: The Story of Universal Theme Parks” streams on Peacock beginning Nov. 17, 2025.
