Disney Imagineers Redesigning Park for Los Angeles Wildfire Rebuilding Effort

Walt Disney Imagineering is taking an active part in helping Los Angeles rebuild from the recent wildfires by reimagining a community space in Altadena.

Imagineering a Public Park

In January, The Walt Disney Company donated $15 million to Los Angeles fire relief efforts. Today, they shared that $5 million of that is dedicated to rebuilding Charles White Park in Altadena, as well as two other parks in the area.

Bob Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Company, explained why the space was chosen:

Los Angeles has been home to The Walt Disney Company since its founding more than a century ago, which is why we felt a special responsibility to help this community rebuild in the aftermath of the devastating wildfires earlier this year. I’m incredibly proud of our Imagineers who are volunteering their time and talents to help reimagine cherished public spaces like Charles White Park. Their work is not only a testament to Disney’s creative spirit, but also to our deep commitment to our neighbors throughout this region. We hope this effort brings comfort, joy, and a sense of renewal to the Altadena community for years to come.

Imagineers have been working directly with Los Angeles County officials to reimagine the park while preserving the elements that survived the fires. Concept art for the new community space show large pinecone-shaped play structures (inspired by the park’s Deodar Cedar trees) with bridges and slides, climbing boulders, swings, and a splash pad.

Additional concept art also shows sports fields and an amphitheater.

Los Angeles Fire Relief Efforts

The Walt Disney Company actively contributed to helping during and after the Los Angeles wildfires. The Disneyland hotels housed displaced Cast Members and the company offered financial assistance, furnished housing, and clothing to affected Cast Members. Donation drives hosted by Disney VoluntEARS collected more than 200,000 essential items for those impacted by the fires, and $25 from the sale of each “LA Strong” Mickey t-shirt goes to the American Red Cross.
