The Disney Destiny has officially been christened! This symbolizes that she is ready to set sail with her first guests.

Disney Destiny Christening Ceremony
Disney Cruise Line livestreamed the ceremony on their Instagram.

On a stage with the illuminated Destiny as a backdrop, Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro and and Disney Signature Experiences President Joe Schott welcomed everyone to the ceremony.

That kicked off a live show featuring drones, ship projections, singers, musicians, and performers taking us through the Heroes & Villains stories we’ll find aboard the Disney Destiny, starting with Black Panther for the Wakanda-themed Grand Hall with its T’Challa statue.

Next up were visuals and music inspired from The Lion King, for the Pride Lands: Feast of the Lion King dinner experience.

As the strains of “He’s a Pirate” started, a massive skull took shape over the ship before morphing into dueling rapiers as pirate-themed projections covered the ship. This is for the Cask & Cannon, the Pirates of the Caribbean themed lounge.

As the sky filled with icy stars, the singers performed a medley of “Into the Unknown” and “Let It Go.” Frozen is one of the Broadway-style shows being performed on the Destiny.

Next was a sinister rendition of “Once Upon a Dream” from Sleeping Beauty as thorns grew along and over the ship before morphing into Maleficent’s signature horns above glowing green dragon eyes.

Things then took a fashionable shift as Cruella de Vil took over, covering the ship in all variety of spots as the band played her theme song and drones spelled her signature. De Vil’s is the ship’s piano lounge.

The next villain to be featured was Dr. Facilier to the strains of “Friends on the Other Side.” He is a roaming character aboard.

Finally, it was time for the signature hero of the Destiny Destiny: Hercules.

After projections and drones forming Hades and Mount Olympus, we got a rousing rendition of “Zero to Hero” with accompanying visuals and drone “fireworks.” Hercules is the Destiny’s exclusive Broadway-style show and the movie and characters are also featured all around the ship.

Then it was time for the official christening with the godparent of the Disney Destiny, Susan Egan, a Broadway legend who was also the voice of Meg in Hercules. She was joined by Captains Mickey and Minnie for the special occasion.
