Disney+ and Hulu See Rise in Subscribers in September Quarter

Disney has released the results of the 2025 fiscal year for streaming.

Disney finished out its 2025 fiscal year on a high note for streaming.

In Disney’s report, there was a 195.7 million growth in subscribers and a 39% increase in direct-to-consumer operating income.

These numbers are for both Disney+ and Hulu; however, this is the final quarter that Disney will report on subscriber figures.

Disney+

Disney+ added 3.8 million new subscribers in the quarter, which brought its total to 131.6 million worldwide. In the U.S. and Canada, Disney+ grew by 1.5 million to reach 59.3 million subscribers.

A major driver of that growth was the September 3 debut of the live-action Lilo & Stitch, which became a box-office hit before streaming and drew 14.3 million views in its first five days on Disney+.

That made it the platform’s second-largest live-action premiere, trailing only 2023’s The Little Mermaid, which had 16 million views in the same timeframe. Disney also noted that Alien: Earth as FX’s biggest series premiere to date across both Disney+ and Hulu.

Hulu

Hulu gained 8.6 million new subscribers, largely thanks to Disney’s expanded agreement with Charter. This offers the ad-supported version of Hulu at no extra cost to all Spectrum TV Select customers.

Disney’s reported subscriber numbers include anyone who is “entitled to a service through wholesale arrangements,” regardless of whether they actively watch content.
