Show Building Outline Revealed for Monsters Inc. Coaster In CFTOD Filing

The agenda for the next Central Florida Tourism Oversight District Board of Supervisors meeting includes details of the Monsters, Inc. land under construction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Agenda Item 7.5 for the Board’s October 24 meeting is to “Approve a Developer Agreement for Construction of electrical infrastructure to service Project L and authorize the District Administrator to execute the agreements”. Project L appears to be the “secret” name for the construction of the Monsters, Inc. land, a.k.a. Monstropolis.

Map shows CF700 NW road, nearby areas, woods, and a riverside building within CFTOD, near Walt Disney World property boundaries.

The full developer agreement is included in the agenda packet and mostly details infrastructure and utility work. There will be three service yards, an electric service yard, an underground duct bank, and a directional drill system.

Included in the agreement is the above graphic of the construction area outside Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The upper left corner of the graphic shows the site of the new Monsters, Inc. door coaster, taking over part of a Cast Member parking lot.

Between two service yards is the faint outline of the Monsters, Inc. coaster’s show building and track. We previously got an idea of the track layout thanks a model, and the general size of the show building was revealed in a previous CFTOD filing.

Staff recommends the Board approve this agreement.

A Disney Parks 2025 addition, this theme park ride features guests in seats suspended on a track amid a vibrant futuristic setting, with animated characters holding doors.

The door coaster will be Disney’s first ever suspended coaster and first vertical lift coaster. The coaster cars will also be able to rotate.

Monstropolis takes over the former Muppets Courtyard, with the coaster’s show building being added on as an expansion to the park in what was formerly a backstage Cast Member parking lot. MuppetVision 3D and PizzeRizzo closed permanently in June after Mama Melrose’s closed in May. The coaster’s facilities will be brand new to the area but other Muppets Courtyard/Grand Avenue structures will be reused.

Mama Melrose’s will become Harryhausen’s, a restaurant visited by characters in the first Monsters, Inc. PizzeRizzo will likely be a new quick-service restaurant. Disney has not announced what will go in the MuppetVision 3D theater.

A preview center featuring all the Monstropolis concept art recently opened at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It also includes Tropical Americas, coming soon to Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and the Cars Piston Peak National Park expansion at Magic Kingdom.
