Permit Filed for Mama Melrose’s Transformation Into Monsters, Inc. Restaurant

Walt Disney Imagineering filed the first construction permit for Mama Melrose’s, which will become a new Monsters, Inc. restaurant at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

The permit contracts PCL Construction Services, Inc. for “General construction” at 359 Cypress Drive, Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830 — the address for the former Disney’s Hollywood Studios Italian restaurant. It was filed on October 20, 2025, and expires in one year.

Though construction is well underway in Grand Avenue to transform Muppets Courtyard into Monstropolis, this is the first permit filed for Mama Melrose’s. According to concept art, it will be turned into Harryhausen’s, a restaurant where Mike and Celia go on a date in the first Monsters, Inc.

Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano closed permanently in May, followed by the rest of Muppets Courtyard in June. Take a last look at Mama Melrose’s.

Monsters, Inc. Land

The Monsters, Inc. land appears to be officially called Monstropolis. In addition to Mama Melrose’s, the concept art indicates the MuppetVision 3D and PizzeRizzo buildings will be reused and re-themed. The Stage 1 Company Store was completely demolished.

Animated characters Sulley and Mike from Monsters, Inc. are escaping through a door on a roller-coaster-like track, akin to a suspended coaster, while riders in yellow seats watch the scene. A child is held by Sulley.

The land was announced at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event with the reveal of a door roller-coaster. It will be Disney’s first vertical lift and first suspended coaster.

A preview center recently opened with concept art and maquettes for this land, Tropical Americas at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and Piston Peak National Park at Magic Kingdom.
