Crews have started demolishing Aunt Polly’s on Tom Sawyer Island at Magic Kingdom to make way for a Cars area.
Aunt Polly’s Demolition

Over construction walls, we could see a pile of rubble approximately where Aunt Polly’s used to be. Although we couldn’t see the entire area, it appears a significant portion of the building has been demolished.

Aunt Polly’s was a quick-service restaurant on Tom Sawyer Island, although it had not operated for several years before the island permanently closed this summer. The famous “Tom (hearts) Becky” fence was removed soon after closing, possibly to be saved from actual demolition.

As of last month, Rivers of America has been completely surrounded by scrims and construction walls. A few gaps in the walls have since been filled in, so most demolition and construction is hidden.

Last week, Superstition Bridge was removed. There are still fences visible along the edge of the island.

Harper’s Mill and Huck’s Landing are still standing, although props were removed from the landing.

Piston Peak

Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island will be replaced by the Cars-inspired Piston Peak National Park. Inspired by the Rocky Mountains, this expansion to Frontierland will include a rally race ride and family-friendly attraction. A preview center for Piston Peak, as well as the Monsters, Inc. and Tropical Americas lands, recently opened at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
