Major Part of Rivers of America Removed as Construction Continues

It appears one major piece of the former Rivers of America at Disney World is now gone as crews continue to demolish the area that will become the future Piston Peak.

Construction Continues

Along the Rivers of America at Disney, tan umbrellas, lanterns, and wooden accents blend with lush trees beneath a cloudy sky.

The bridge that once crossed the waterway from the main part of Tom Sawyer Island to the Fort Longhorn Island appears to have been removed. Guests could travel between the two islands, and Fort Longhorn offered guests views of the Rivers of America and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.

Our Disney World reporter headed over to Frontierland recently to check on the construction and did not see the bridge anymore.

Crews were working in the area at the time, but it’s not clear what exactly they were doing. And at one point, we did see a white truck and other machinery.

The area itself is hard to see now that the Rivers of America is completely surrounded with temporary scrim and construction walls. However, we are able to see the progress being made from various vantage points in Frontierland.

Piston Peak

The Rivers of America is the future home of Piston Peak, a Cars-themed land coming to Magic Kingdom. Piston Peak is a fictional national park inspired by the Rocky Mountains and the American Frontier, which is what ties it into the overall theme of Frontierland.

The land will have two attractions: an off-road thrill ride and a family-friendly ride for younger guests.
