Disney has resumed development on a possible live-action Tangled with Scarlett Johansson eyeing the role of Mother Gothel.
Live-Action Tangled

We first reported on development of a live-action Tangled remake in 2020, ten years after the original film’s release. After five years, live-action Tangled was put on hold following a poor response to Disney’s live-action Snow White remake.
According to Deadline, however, Disney is taking a new look at the project. This comes after a successful box office for the live-action Lilo & Stitch.
Michael Gracey (The Greatest Showman) is still attached to direct and Jennifer Kaytin Robinson is still writing the script.
The live-action Tangled has not been formally greenlit.
The original animated Tangled made $600 million worldwide. It featured the voices of Mandy Moore as Rapunzel, Zachary Levi as Flynn Rider, and Donna Murphy as Mother Gothel.

Scarlett Johansson is of course known for playing Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She’s also working with Disney to create a new Tower of Terror film. She recently made her directorial debut with Eleanor the Great.
JoJo Siwa auditioned for the live-action role of Rapunzel but no casting decisions have been made.
It spawned a short film sequel, Tangled Ever After, and a TV series, Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure. Disney Cruise Line adapted the original film into a stage musical. The first Tangled-inspired ride, Rapunzel’s Lantern Festival, debuted at Tokyo DisneySea in 2024. Another ride, Raiponce Tangled Spin, is under construction at Disneyland Paris.
