The second National Treasure film, National Treasure: Book of Secrets, was released 18 years ago in 2007. Last year, Bruckheimer revealed that a National Treasure 3 screenplay was being written, and now he’s sharing more details about the franchise’s long-awaited threequel.

The news that the franchise’s original star Nicolas Cage and director Jon Turteltaub are planned to return was confirmed in an interview with TheWrap:

When asked about the long-rumored “National Treasure 3,” the producer said, “We’re getting closer on that one.” He confirmed that the intention is for original “National Treasure” director Jon Turteltaub and star Nicolas Cage to return for the long-awaited sequel.

National Treasure: Edge of History, a spin-off television series with a different cast and story, was released on Disney+ in 2022; it only lasted one season. Bruckheimer acknowledged the series and confirmed that it would remain a standalone entity independent of the upcoming film:

“No, it was completely different,” Bruckheimer said of the spin-off. “We want to keep the name alive in the public eye [and] the zeitgeist.”
