Versa is directed by Malcon Pierce (Raya and The Last Dragon, Encanto, and Wish). The new short film played at Animation Is Film Festival this past weekend.

According to Variety, Versa follows a young couple looking to start a family. Read the description below:

A young couple lives a range of emotions, from loss and mourning to supreme joy, while embarking on an ethereal ‘cosmic dance of life.’

Pierce and his wife lost their infant son, Cooper, and inspiration for the short film stems from them wanting to share their story. “Every morning we’d come downstairs, all these little rainbows would be spread around the house from the little star, and it became a way of remembering Cooper and keeping him close to us,” says Pierce.

There is no dialogue in Versa; instead it is set to music and dance in an effort to portray a journey of love, loss, grief, and healing through a different medium.
