Struzan’s official Instagram page posted:
It is with a heavy heart that I must tell you that Drew Struzan has moved on from this world as of yesterday, October 13th. I feel it is important that you all know how many times he expressed to me the joy he felt knowing how much you appreciated his art. – Greg
Struzan was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease several years ago. His wife, Dylan, wrote on social media earlier this year that, “Drew can no longer paint or sign things for you. He is not enjoying a well-deserved retirement but rather fighting for his life.”

Struzan created posters for Indiana Jones and Star Wars films, Back to the Future, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s/Philosopher’s Stone, Blade Runner, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, The Muppet Movie, An American Tail, The Goonies, Hook, Hocus Pocus, and many more. He was associated with Steven Spielberg and George Lucas, even designing the original Industrial Light & Magic logo for Lucas and the poster for the Indiana Jones Adventure attraction at Disneyland Resort.
His works also included comic books, collectible art, and stamps.
He retired in 2008 after creating artwork for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, although came out of retirement for select projects including Star Wars: The Force Awakens and How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World. He also illustrated the book A Bloody Business by his wife Dylan Struzan.
Struzan was the subject of the 2013 documentary Drew: The Man Behind the Poster directed by Erik Sharkey.
In a statement, Spielberg said, “Drew made event art. His posters made many of our movies into destinations … and the memory of those movies and the age we were when we saw them always comes flashing back just by glancing at his iconic photorealistic imagery. In his own invented style, nobody drew like Drew.” (via Deadline)
