DOLE Whip Obsessed – Flavors, Locations and Fun Facts

Tangy and refreshing, DOLE Whip has soft-served its way into the hearts of many Disney Parks fans. This tantalizing treat is so popular that fans even clamor for merchandise and snap up seasonal specialties like they’re going out of style. But what is a DOLE Whip, and how does it have such a prolific fan base? After all, the treat even has its own annual holiday now.

What Is DOLE Whip?

With the same mouthfeel as ice cream, DOLE Whip is a dairy-free, fruit-flavored soft-serve frozen dessert. The original flavor is pineapple, though you can get a range of other fruit flavors as well, like orange or strawberry.

DOLE Whip actually debuted first at Walt Disney World Resort in 1984 after Dole signed on as a sponsor for the park in 1983. They had already been the sponsor for Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room at Disneyland Resort since 1976. Two years later, in 1986, DOLE Whip made its way over to Disneyland as well.

Where Can You Find DOLE Whip In the Parks?

Ever since DOLE Whip first made its way into Disney Parks, people can’t get enough of it. Though guests often have their DOLE Whip go-to spot, personally, we prefer Sunshine Tree Terrace at Walt Disney World. There are many places across several Disney Parks in the U.S. and abroad to acquire the frozen delicacy.

DOLE Whip Varieties

A swirl of DOLE Whip ice cream in a cup with a yellow base, set outdoors against a backdrop of green foliage and red flowers, reminiscent of the magical ambiance at Walt Disney World.

In addition to a simple DOLE Whip cup, there are a variety of other takes on the treat you can enjoy. Many of these staples stay on menus for a long time and aren’t considered temporary, unlike the specialty DOLE Whips in the next section.

For example, at Aloha Isle at Disney World, you can enjoy a personal favorite snack, the Pineapple Float. This delectable drink is a serving of DOLE pineapple juice with either DOLE Whip Pineapple, DOLE Whip Vanilla, or the two swirled together. The pineapple juice is invigorating, and the DOLE Whip adds an extra hint of creamy sweetness.

However, just down the walkway from Aloha Isla is Sunshine Tree Terrace, which offers an even wider selection of DOLE Whip float options, as well as traditional ice cream floats. The I Lava You Float has been a big hit with my park adventure companions for years—Fanta strawberry soda and passion fruit flavor, topped with DOLE Whip Orange and popping candy. It is positively lava-ly.

Specialty DOLE Whips

Unlike the standard DOLE Whip floats or cups, the seasonal or specialty treats are only available for a limited time. These imaginative desserts use new or rare kinds of DOLE Whip, as well as other ingredients like cakes or syrups to dream up something completely new.

For the 70th anniversary of Disneyland, for instance, The Tropical Hideaway has a celebratory Peach Sundae. It is made with DOLE Whip Peach with a caramel drizzle, topped with streusel and a peach ring.

At Aloha Isle in Disney World, there is a special DOLE Whip float available again for Halloween 2025 (seen above): the DOLE Whip Mango and Chamoy Float. This sweet and spicy concoction is made with DOLE Whip Mango, pineapple juice, chili lime seasoning, and chamoy.

DOLE Whip Merchandise

DOLE Whips have such a strong fandom in Disney Parks culture that you’ll even spot them on merchandise. From Spirit Jerseys to ear headbands, pins, and everything in between, Disney will sporadically introduce more merch out into the world. Just keep your eyes peeled for that pineapple yellow!

At Disney's Polynesian Resort, a bowl of soft-serve ice cream is topped with pink Mickey-shaped candy and edible flowers, surrounded by raspberries, blackberries, and pineapple chunks. In the backdrop of this tropical delight is a dessert from the nearby Wailulu Bar & Grill.

Can’t make it to the parks but want some DOLE Whip in the comfort of your own home? You’re in luck! Dole has shared the simple recipe for all whip fans to make their own. It only takes ten minutes!

Dole Whip Frequently Asked Questions

What Is a DOLE Whip Made Of?

DOLE whip served in the parks is a combination of a pineapple-flavored dry mix with a dairy-free soft-serve mix. It is then put through a soft-serve machine, which gives it the iconic look of a swirled frozen dessert.

Is DOLE Whip Healthier Than Regular Ice Cream?

Because DOLE Whip is dairy-free, it is less calorically dense with less fat and protein than traditional dairy-based ice cream. However, it also doesn’t contain important nutrients like calcium, Vitamin D, or potassium either. So it is healthier in calories and fats, though it is missing other nutritional value ice cream has.

Is DOLE Whip Only At Disney?

No, in fact, back in 2023 they started selling DOLE Whip in grocery stores. You can also find it at other theme parks as well! For instance, Universal’s Islands of Adventure serves it at Chill Ice Cream and Universal Studios Florida serves a version DOLE Whip at Schwab’s Pharmacy (though these items don’t always have permission to the official DOLE Whip name) .

How Is DOLE Whip Different From Ice Cream?

Unlike traditional ice cream, DOLE Whip does not contain dairy. Instead, it’s made with a plant-based soft-serve base. This gives it the same consistency as soft-serve ice cream without including milk.
