After months of rumors and no news, Disney+ is officially ending their partnership with Doctor Who, although continues to be involved in an upcoming spin-off of the series.
Disney+ and Doctor Who

Disney+ partnered with the BBC on the past two seasons and some specials of Doctor Who.
Lindsay Salt, the BBC drama director, said, “We’d like to thank Disney+ for being terrific global partners and collaborators over the past two seasons, and for the upcoming The War Between the Land and the Sea.” (via The Hollywood Reporter)
The War Between the Land and the Sea will be a miniseries focused on UNIT and the Sea Devils, a returning monster from the classic series of Doctor Who. Filming concluded last year. It will still air on both BBC One and Disney+ later this year.
Disney+ will also continue to stream the two Doctor Who seasons and specials produced under their deal.
Future of Doctor Who

The BBC confirmed that Doctor Who will return with a Christmas special in 2026. This will be almost two years after the last episode aired in May 2025. The special will be written by showrunner Russell T. Davies.
The BBC will announce details of future seasons and more information on an animated show for pre-school children later.
“The BBC remains fully committed to Doctor Who, which continues to be one of our most loved dramas, and we are delighted that Russell T Davies has agreed to write us another spectacular Christmas special for 2026,” said Salt. “We can assure fans, the Doctor is not going anywhere, and we will be announcing plans for the next series in due course which will ensure the TARDIS remains at the heart of the BBC.”
