According to Fox 35 out of Orlando, Melissa was nearing hurricane strength as it moved through the Caribbean. It has now reached hurricane strength. Air lines and other cruise lines are monitoring the storm, although any severe impact on the U.S. coast is still unknown. Currently, heavy rainfall, flooding, and landslides are expected for Southern Hispaniola and Jamaica.

The most recent data from the National Hurricane Center suggests that damaging winds up to 140 mph could impact Jamaica today with extensive infrastructural damage and power loss expected. A storm surge is also expected late Monday night into Tuesday morning. The storm is moving west at a rate of 5 mph. Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and Eastern Cuba are also in the path of the storm, which is forecasted to continue through the week.

Tropical storm conditions altered a Disney Wish sailing last month, and a Disney Treasure itinerary changed due to Hurricane Erin in August.
