Adam Driver Says Disney Killed Standalone Ben Solo Movie

Adam Driver has revealed in an interview with AP that he and Lucasfilm pitched a standalone Ben Solo movie to Disney and it was rejected.

“The Hunt for Ben Solo”

In the interview with Associated Press, Driver says he “always was interested in doing another Star Wars” and that he worked with director Steven Soderbergh to develop a standalone film that would have taken place after the events of 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker:

I had been talking about doing another one since 2021. Kathleen (Kennedy) had reached out. I always said: With a great director and a great story, I’d be there in a second. I loved that character and loved playing him.

Ultimately, the project pulled Soderbergh, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, Lucasfilm vice president Cary Beck, and Lucasfilm chief creative officer Dave Filoni on board. Frequent Soderbergh collaborator Scott Z. Burns wrote the script, which Driver called, “one of the coolest (expletive) scripts I had ever been a part of.”

However, despite Driver’s personal passion for the project, Disney turned the film down.

“We took it to Bob Iger and Alan Bergman and they said no. They didn’t see how Ben Solo was alive. And that was that.”

Driver added that the film would have been called The Hunt for Ben Solo. Soderbergh confirmed the script’s existence, saying in a statement:

“I really enjoyed making the movie in my head. I’m just sorry the fans won’t get to see it.”

In December 2023, Driver confirmed that he was done playing Kylo Ren in the Star Wars universe.
