Tokyo Disneyland New Space Mountain Gets Exterior Paneling

Crews have started installing white exterior paneling on the new Space Mountain at Tokyo Disneyland.

Space Mountain Paneling

The attraction’s framework is complete, creating a silhouette similar to the classic Space Mountain. Towers of scaffolding on top of the structure surround thin spires. Paneling has been installed on the left side of the facade, above a small round section.

The smaller round element to the left also has decorative spires. Scaffolding leads up to them.

Construction workers are on a large, round, scaffolding-covered building with cranes under a blue sky.

The panels on the front are not the final facade elements. There are sections of thin white strips atop what looks like tiles. A group of crew members was working on the paneling during our trip this week.

There is more final paneling visible on the right side, wrapping around the back of the attraction.

We got a better look at that paneling from the Monorail. These are large curved white panels arranged in a row, creating a swoop across the center of the building.

The old version of Space Mountain was completely demolished by April 2025 after closing permanently the summer of 2024. Work began on the new Space Mountain back in 2023, however. This updated version of the classic attraction is located directly behind the old attraction’s site, which will become a new plaza.

The new attraction is rumored to be named Space Mountain: Earthrise, but Tokyo Disney Resort has not made an official announcement. It’s set to open in 2027. The Oriental Land Company is spending approximately ¥56 billion ($437 million) on the attraction.
