Soaring Over the Horizon at Shanghai Disneyland will increase in capacity by approximately 50%, Shanghai Disney Resort stated on Instagram. The attraction currently has two theaters and will add a third.

The update also includes a new ending that flies guests over Shanghai Disney Resort “along with some other magical surprises!” Because Soaring Over the Horizon was developed while Shanghai Disneyland was still under construction, its finale flies over the city of Shanghai instead of the park.

Shanghai Disney Resort will announce more information, including a closing timeline for Soaring Over the Horizon, later.

Soarin’ at Disney Parks

Soarin’ is a flight motion simulator at multiple Disney Parks around the world. The original was Soarin’ Over California, an opening day attraction at Disney California Adventure in 2001. It opened at EPCOT in 2005.

Soaring Over the Horizon opened with Shanghai Disneyland in June 2016. This version takes guests all around the world before “returning” to Shanghai. The “Around the World” film was also introduced in Disney California Adventure and EPCOT, with respective finales. While Soarin’ Around the World usually plays year-round, Soarin’ Over California has returned to Disney California Adventure for the annual Food & Wine Festival and returned to EPCOT for the 100th anniversary of The Walt Disney Company.

The infamous curved Eiffel Tower was fixed on the Disney California Adventure and EPCOT versions of the ride this summer. The EPCOT version also got an updated finale with the park’s new center.

A fourth version of the attraction, Soaring: Fantastic Flight, opened at Tokyo DisneySea in 2019. This version replaces the Paris scene with with a flight over Tokyo.
