Grand Floridian Lobby Staircase Reopens with New Carpet

The grand staircase in the lobby of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort has reopened after six weeks, fully revealing a new carpet and mural.

The staircase is found across from the birdcage elevator. The carpet is similar to before but with a slightly different design. The railings are the same.

A person stands at the bottom of a grand, ornate staircase with floral-patterned carpet in a large, elegant foyer.

The new carpet is a teal blue color with a floral pattern of mostly pink and yellow flowers on green vines. Blue-green filigree is on beige stripes down the sides of the staircase. For comparison, below is the old carpet.

As you can see, the color scheme is nearly identical. Previously, the stripes on the sides were mainly red. And the floral pattern was a little different.

A “GF” medallion design is on the large step near the bottom of the staircase. It’s surrounded by blue, yellow, white, and pink flowers.

On the landings are matching carpets with larger designs. On the second floor, this carpet extends into the refurbished seating and PhotoPass area.

On the wall above the staircase is a mural depicting the Grand Floridian. We first glimpsed this two weeks ago. The resort is pictured on the edge of the lagoon with several sea birds around. A sailboat is in the water.

Palm trees are to the sides of the resort, along with other foliage. Pink flowers are in the foreground on the left. Pink clouds are in the blue sky.

At the top of the stairs on one side is a console table under a mirror. On the other side is a cabinet behind a sofa.

Cítricos and Victoria & Albert’s Entrance

Curtains were also down from the hallway leading to Cítricos and Victoria & Albert’s. Curtains have been on and off blocking the hallway during the day while the restaurants opened at night. The new carpeting is just like that on the staircase landings while the new wallaper has a more subtle vine-like pattern.

Above is what the space used to look like. The wallpaper had a beige striped pattern, which is being replaced all throughout the lobby. The carpeting was green, blue, and pink with gold filigree. There were also maps on the walls, which are currently missing, but that may be temporary. The ceiling fan has been replaced by two golden chandeliers.

Lamps were removed from next to the entryway. And instead of just a table with decorations, the hallway now has three green benches.

Birdcage Bar

Workers in a construction area assemble a large wooden staircase inside an elegant, white indoor space.

Since yesterday, crews have installed two more wood grain frames on the sides of the new birdcage bar. They initially installed the one on the front, then installed the white panels.

According to concept art, the square openings in the frames will be filled with decorative elements.

The semi-circle where a decorative seashell element used to hang above the Garden View Tea room has been further sanded down and smoothed. A brand-new element featuring the GF logo will be installed before the lobby remodel is complete.

DVC Desk

A white curtain divider stands in a spacious room with arched windows and Grand Floridian-style patterned tile flooring.

The Disney Vacation Club desk near the entrance to Grand Floridian Cafe has been temporarily moved into the lobby near Sandy Cove Gifts and Sundries. The usual location is currently blocked by white curtains, indicating crews are likely doing work on the windows or walls.
