American flags at multiple locations across Walt Disney World are currently at half-staff to honor the late Charlie Kirk.

Kirk was a conservative political personality who was shot and killed at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025. In the wake of his death, President Trump ordered American flags on all public buildings and grounds be flown at half-staff until at least sunset on Sunday, September 14.

We first noticed Disney flags at half-staff on September 11. This is not uncommon, as the flags across Walt Disney World are traditionally flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset in remembrance of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Though Disney is private property, they usually do follow federal flag proclamations.

This period specifically for 9/11 usually only lasts for the single day, and the flag typically returns to full-staff on the morning September 12.

However, the Walt Disney World flags were still flying at half-staff on September 12. This is likely in accordance with the half-staff order for Kirk, meaning they will likely remain in this position until sunset on September 14.

Another recent example of the flags at Walt Disney World being flown at half-staff includes the passing of Pope Francis this past April. Some of the flags at Disneyland Resort were also flown at half-staff in January to honor the late President Jimmy Carter.
